2598LMT vs 3580LMT

My heated up 3790 packed it in. I replaced it with a 3580.
My 2598 is similar in behavior. In the "where to" screen i can Add Shortcuts. I added my custom pois there. Great idea, don't have to use the Categories icon, which is a bit of a pain. The 3580 has that function also BUT, can't seem to add my custom pois.
I can add anything else but not that. Any idea guys? Thanks

Are

Are you saying that when you tap on the Add Shortcut icon that Custom POIs doesn't appear on the list shown in the Search Tools section of the Add to Menu? Or does it appear and it's greyed out?

i see "Favorite Search", then "Category" (in there there's a bunch of stuff but not custom poi), then comes "Saved Place" and under search tools there's Address, Intersections, Cities and Coordinates

You may well be right. In this Youtube video for the nuvi 35xx series:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-zSu77vrBQ

there is a quick view about 1/3 of the way through the video of the items available as a shortcut (both the first page and the scroll-down page) and Custom POIs isn't an option. I have to assume that the 35xx series won't allow a Custom POI shortcut.

I wish he would have scrolled down while he was in Category to see what he had in there.

No idea how he did it. I tried to add Trip Computer, Exit Services, and Traffic Reports. Couldn't do it.

Customization of Map Buttons and “Where To” Shortcuts – Users can now place 3 optional buttons on the right side of the display (choosing from a list of 12 items), giving easy access to YOUR desired functions (I’ve chosen Trip Computer, Exit Services, and Traffic Reports); the remaining functions are easily accessed via a small icon at the bottom right corner of the map display. Further, one can also choose to display “Map Layers” on screen (any one OR all of Traffic, Trip Log, POI’s, 3D Buildings, 3D Terrain), via another button on the left of the map. You can also customize the “Where To” function screen, with additional user selected “shortcut” icons for up to 36 functions, as well as specific Search Categories (fuel, Starbucks, restaurants, addresses, and on and on). Another new feature is the ability to display certain info in a Nuvi “Dashboard,” at the bottom of the screen (in 4 data fields,” such as elevation, arrival time, distance to destination, speed, etc.). I knew when I first saw these “data fields” on pix of the 2xxx models that I wanted them, and am now pleased to have them.

@Speed2

On the 2597 you can touch Where To? The next screen will show the icons. You can long press with your finger and drag any icon to the location you want. The Custom POIS icon was located near the bottom on my device. I draged it to the top for easy selection. Not sure if the 3580 can do that but give it a try.

There are no settings to create a customer POI shortcut on the Nuvi 2555LMT.
Using Garmin Basecamp a folder containing the favorites can be created in the collection and sent to the Nuvi 2555LMT.
Then when using the Where To? > Saved, the favorites in that folder will display as a separate category.

I tried my darndest to do this to my 3580. Couldn't get it to work. Tried it manually also. sad

I am suggesting just to

I am suggesting just to change the icon order. You may have to scroll down farther to find the custom poi icon.Holding your finger on it allows you to drag to a different order then what is in now.Pretty sure your 2598 will do it.

OK. My 2697 will not do the shortcut for custom poi either but I can change the order of the listed icons.Just a shot that the 3580 could do it.Back to the drawing board.

Well

Well not exactly. The 3597 allows for a Custom POI shortcut along with other "Search Tool" shortcuts including:

Address - Intersections - Cities - Coordinates

Silly me, of course—and I have had it set as a shortcut on my 3597 for a very long time as well (and moved it up to be on page 1 of my WhereTos) so I should have known better. redface But for the 3580 (and 90?) and lower 35xx models, it appears to be not an option as Speed and YouTube have found.

Thanks for the correction...and long live the 3597.

But

A 3580 is just a 3590 with out 3d traffic. Costco sold them. If you check garmins page it does more than your 3597. Except giving me a Custom poi short cut. No way of knowing all this until you load the custom pois after you buy the unit. It wasn't something i was thinking about when i bought it. Its a handy convenience but generally i get my wife to grab whatever i need from there. Either way theres a lot of scrolling involved once your in the file shortcut or no shortcut. Its a hazard at best to do this while driving.

success of nuvi 760

After the success of the "perfect" GPS, the Garmin nuvi 760, we all held on to our 760s so long that Garmin apparently decided, as a marketing strategy, to never offer the "perfect" GPS again.

Each model has something left out, when it would be easier to load the same software features in each one. Their plan not only applies to software, but also to hardware features as well.
