Map Updates

I took a trip to Atlanta this week and my trusty GPS seemed confused. Leaving the airport it showed me driving where there were no roads and all in all it was a bit confused. I soon realized that I have not been diligent about map updates and they have altered the roads and routes around the airport significantly.

When I got home I plugged into my PC and found that I was 2 years behind in my update. Luckily all my destinations were right where they should be and the old map worked fine.

Ford wants $150 for a map update which I refuse to pay. Lifetime updates for my Nuvi are all I really need.

Everything I've heard about

Everything I've heard about builtin gps make we want to avoid them. My garmin is easy to update. My android works fine too!

Hard to avoid the build in GPS if it is not an option on the trim level you select, on my 2016 Highlander XLE was standard for that trim model, had I chosen the LE it would have been optional just like the leather seats etc. My plan is to use it as long as the map stays fairly current and use my Garmin with lifetime map after that or in conjunction

it wont be long...

it wont be long before you will be able to download the built in gps map updates as if you were downloading a song or a movie.
as well it wont be much longer before it is a standard feature in every new vehicle.
Trust me I love my Garmin's I hate the onboard voices so mechanical. we have both a Garmin and on board in both our vehicles...
