good evening

Drive Dafe

It finally stopped raining down here in Miami.
Drive safe everyone

SF Bay area is Superbowl crazy

Too much going on around here.

Big day tomorrow--

Going with our daughter to the DMV for her driver's test. I think she's ready; she's not sure.

She's 23, she's got a job, and will be paying for her insurance.

One of the reasons dads get grey hair... Teaching our daughters to drive...

My kids wanted to drive as soon as they were able. You were lucky she waited this long. Maybe she is mature enough to drive safer than when my daughter was 16 (1983). She totaled her car after two weeks of having a drivers license. My husband and I were almost finished working on it. New seat covers, body work, etc. Everything was finished except for the paint. We were waiting on a spoiler to come from JC Whitney in the mail to have it painted. Glad the item was delayed......
She didn't drive again for two years AND we then bought her a larger car, a Monte Carlo. Can't remember the year but she wrecked it just after the new paint ..... We told her she could drive it wrecked until she could buy her one on her own.

It's a rant, and a warning,

It's a rant, and a warning, but also a thank you to SanDisk support.

I bought 2 SanDisk Ultra II SSD's, for use in a raid 0 setup as video storage on edit system....

Once I ran the SanDisk Program to test the SSD's, I discovered that even though I had bought 2 identical drives, I had received two different hardware and firmware units that indicated that they were identical drives...

I contacted SanDisk Support, and they confirmed that the two drives were different hardware revisions (Even Replied at two different types of drives, and different hardware types need different firmware to run them....

It took a month of arguing back and forth, with me providing documentation from Disc Controller Manufacturer's indicating that the same model Hardware and Firmware are requirements for proper raid operations..... and SanDisk Support finally accepted my request to exchange one of the SSD's for another of the same type that I kept, so that both drives would be same hardware and firmware revision..... To match the requirements of the Raid Disk Controller Manufacturer.....

That exchange drive arrived last week, and thought I bought the drives the weekend of Thanksgiving.... I finally became comfortable with the SSD's as a Raid 0 last week....

Since the warranty exchange SSD was just that, the serial number wasn't '-legal' to register, so I had to contact Support to get it registered... Which was done early this week...

The trials and tribulations of what you have to go through for a drive upgrade!!!!

filters

I have a forced air furnace that I have serviced once a year about 2 years ago I found out I could get furnace filters at less than half of what I pay the company . I went to Lowes and Walmart and couldn't find the right size because it was a trane filter 21x21 which no one else makes and they charge $25 dollars for yes I can buy a cut to size filter that I can wash each time , but I found a place that sells them , the filters for a Trane furnace for $9 online it pays to shop around !

Are the $9

Are the $9 ones the same quality as the ones you get from the company? We buy ours at Lowes but it is 4" thick by 20x25 and quite pricey because of the thickness. I don't want to loose quality for the difference. We have such dust in the area so I find it is better to buy a good one if the quality isn't the same, but if it is I will look online. Thanks

Hooray!

Daughter passed her driving test today. When we figure out what she'll be driving, dad won't have to get up early in the morning to take her to work!

Getting up early is no fun. One of the great things about being retired.

Can you believe it…”Super Bowl 50" will be here in less than a week. When ”Super Bowl 1" was played, I was 20 years old, soon to be in the Army and eventually shipped out to Vietnam. That old adage “is” true… “Time really does fly when you’re havin’ fun”.

Stay safe and I’ll see ya next week…

3 years older than I. Don't really know about having all that much fun when the time was flying by so fast, but it does seem to have flown.

Super Bowl L!

I live in Silicon Valley. One of the few good things about this boondoggle is that it will be over Monday (that's how long it will take airports to mostly recover). Traveling to areas anywhere near the Stadium is like trying to cross in to East Berlin of old.

We've taken in a refugee, a friend (and her dog) who live too close to the stadium and can't take the crap. They will be with us until Monday.

I'll watch the game Sunday afternoon, and probably monitor Flightaware looking for light aircraft looping and loitering in the area.

Next week we can get back to some semblance of normal.
