Snow & Listen

20" of snow in my area [Greenbelt MD] -- Just North of D.C. Up the road a few miles, Baltimore had 30". Dug my car out today.

Chit Chat

As I was raised in Southern California, I always expect the Midwest weather to give us a break each winter. I am always wrong but can at least keep hoping.

Dry for a few days...

A brief break from the rain we so need, time enough for my son to get rid of one vehicle (non-operational) and schedule a visit from the junk fairies (who appear and make the junk disappear)

but...

A new (well, to us) vehicle (84 Ford 250) arrives the end of the week! He seems to have quite the fondness for big block V8 engines... On the plus side, they're easy to maintain.

And it will provide a challenge to my still learning to drive daughter, learning to drive a four speed stick, and something with different performance and handling characteristics than my turbo Mini!

normal

weather for North Texas this month, winter is not yet over, so we will see what February has in store for us. Only had 2 days with snow flurries so far, no ice storm or snow on the ground yet. Haven't had any super cold weather either, just near normal highs and lows.

Farewell to SVN-23...

SVN-23 was the last of the GPS Block IIA birds. It was launched in November of 1990 with a predicted 8 year life(!).

It was decommissioned on January 25, 2016. Either just prior to being decommissioned, or as part of that process, it sent out a hiccup -- a time offset of 13.7 microseconds, which for the GPS constellation, is pretty damn big...

Decommissioned after almost 26 years... Not bad.

If you want to read more about this particular bird, and its interesting life,
