My Garmin 2797LMT is not finding interstate 635 near dallas.

Trying to set a route on my Garmin to mypass Dallas. On my Iphone's Maps app it takes me on interstate 635 that bypasses the main part of Dallas. But when I try to route my Garmin it does not find or know about the interstate 635. As far as my Garmin is concerned -- it does not exist.

Your route

Is probably set for fastest and straight through the metroplex on I-30 is the fastest when you assume there are no delays due to traffic which is what your Garmin does. The only way to force the route onto 635 is to use waypoints.

Welcome

Welcome to The Factory.

I think Box Car has nailed it, use via points. This can be done right on the nuvi itself. From where you are, select a destination and create a route to it which will apparently go through central Dallas. Then do another WhereTo and go to select Interstection under Categories. For Road 1, select I-635 and for Road 2, select a highway that crosses I-635 on your route, Hwy 75 possibly. Then tap Go, and when offered to Create a New Route or Add to Active Route, choose the Add to...

It looks as though some parts of 635 may be a tollway. Be sure to uncheck Avoid Tolls in your nuvi's Avoidances if that's a possible issue.

Your nuvi can also create Custom Avoidances (see page 6):

http://static.garmin.com/pumac/nuvi_27x7_OM_EN.pdf

If you routinely plan to avoid central Dallas, you could create a Custom Rectangle Avoidance of central Dallas, then your nuvi will always look for the best alternatives which may well be 635.

Try these thoughts and check back if you have more questions.

Had the same problem

I had the same problem where I laid out a route going west towards DFW and needed to take I-635 south to I-35 to San Antonio back in 2011. MapSource didn't transfer over the waypoint I put near Mesquite into the 885 so it tried to route me into downtown Dallas to hit I-35 S. Caught it when I saw the exit sign for I-635 coming up on the right and I was in the left lane.

I-835

Happen to me about 5 yrs ago. GPS was going to route me from I-30 thru Dallas to connect me to I-35 South. Lucky I saw the I-635 exit sign in time.

2797

I set up a route from Detroit to Laredo and other than using a via point to get me away from going via Chicago, the 2797 directs me from I-20 W via I-635 to bypass Dallas and on to I-35 S.

Before the 2797 I used to have to insert a I-65 S bypass for Nashville and also for I-635 S for Dallas. The 2797 does it all by itself.

How new is 635?

Maybe older maps don't have it yet?

How new is 635?

635 has been there for yrs. About 50 to 60 yrs, so it is not new. If you do a route it will follow 635 other than that forget it.

We need to find out why your 2797 is not creating the route you would prefer - and there have been some suggestions above.

However, let's try to ease your mind about whether your device knows about I 635.

Do a Where To? > Searching Near (this is in the upper right corner on my 2595) > A Different City > type in Dallas > tap Dallas > tap Dallas, TX > Address > Done (to not enter a House Number) > type in I635 > (choose any of the choices) > "i"

You should now see a map with I635 displayed
