Laser speed camera tablets coming to Prince George’s County Maryland

From: http://wtop.com/prince-georges-county/2015/06/laser-speed-ca...

"The Prince George's County Police Department is beginning a pilot program to test laser-based speed camera guns with tablet computers that allow officers to catch and ticket speeders in real-time without pulling them over."
"Unlike the traditional box cameras or the cameras attached to poles in Prince George’s County, these cameras would require an officer to point and shoot like old radar guns. But unlike radar guns, these new laser systems are attached to a tablet that generates the violation in real-time. Officers would not be required to pull anyone over, but rather they would simply confirm or reject the ticket on the tablet."

It will be interesting to see if these will be classified as a "ticket camera" ($40 for 12 or over in a school zone) or as a regular speeding ticket (much higher fine and can be operated anywhere).

again

if I were a motorist I would carry on, let the police do whatever they want to do.

People argue against technology, but everytime I'm in MD or DC, people seem to be observing the speed limit. And if so, who cares what the police or township is doing?

It's a different mindset, of course. 30 mph limit, people go 30. The old mindset was 30 mph limit, I can do 50 and if I see a cop I can slow down in time. That's gone, and it ain't comin' back.

An Interesting Approach

This will just fuel the controversy over who is actually driving the car and who should receive the ticket.

It does however add a “human” factor to the process and will allow the officer to give the motorist a break if he feels a ticket would be unwarranted.

If they don't pull over the vehicle..

They realistically can't attach a ticket to a drivers license. Guess is it's the same as a RLC or Speed Camera.

Cute. And the drone will drop the ticket on the windshield.

At least here in IL, they have to capture your face with the camera when they use radar vans in construction zones if they are going to issue a ticket against your license. Nothing a Guy Fawkes mask can't fix while you're driving.

of course

In Il they will take a picture of you while your stopped, put some fictious speed, date and time on it and mail a non-fictitious ticket to you. rolleyes
