Updates are available for your Garmin device

Currently using the latest version of Garmin Express (4.0.8.0) on Windows 7 64-bit.

A few versions ago, I stated getting notification on the notification bar that updates are available for my Garmin device. When I launch Garmin Express, it says everything is up to date. It doesn't matter if the my 2450 is plugged into the computer or not.

Two days ago, I removed the 2450 from Garmin Express and then put it back in. I thought that solved the problem, but this morning, it is saying there are updates again, yet when I launch Express, it again immediately says everything is up to date, yet the icon on the notification bar still says there are updates.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

Device Updates

I have 2 ancient Zumo 550's and GE wants me to purchase maps for them.
As far as I'm concerned, they're close enough for my needs, so I ignore those 'updates'.
Suggest you try to find out if the update for your unit is worthwhile or not.

What "Update(s)"

What "Update(s)" are you being offered?

It is likely that there are some optional updates you could install but could also live without.

You May Give This A Try

Attach the 2450 to the PC and start Garmin Express.
Then remove the 2450 from the list and safely remove the 2550 from the PC. Now SHUT DOWN the PC and then restart it. Connect the Nuvi to the PC and let GE recognize it. See if the notification bar is still showing updates available.

If the bar is there again, I would exit GE and try using WebUpdater to see if it shows any available updates in attempt to isolate what Express is seeing as an update. In WebUpdater, I would look at the TTS voice file you have chosen and see if that has an update. If so, update it but not any other voice files you may have removed from your voice files.

Doesn't Say

That's the thing, it doesn't say. I've got the latest maps. There are items in the optional:
Database of FM Traffic Providers
nuvi Map Theme Files
multiple vehicles

I've even installed the FM Database, and nuvi map theme, but they keep showing up, even under webupdater. I don't have the traffic receiver so I'm not worried.

An hour ago, the icon on the notification wasn't showing updates, but alas right now it is again saying there are updates. Again, when I launch Garmin Express, it says "You're up to date." The notification tab still says "Updates are available for your Garmin device." The past week it's been going on and off. I keep getting excited that the new maps are released.

@rhl7943 I have lifetime maps and they are current 2015.30

@muell9k I've already done all that and it keeps coming back.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll probably just not have Garmin Express run in the background then I'll stop getting the false messages.

@jfossy

Looks like you've tried most everything and it's just another Garmin glitch.

I'm not a fan of Garmin Express so I only use WebUpdater. On my 2460LMT even WebUpdater gives me an erroneous update. It keeps saying my Traffic Provider file needs updating, I know it's up to date. However, I do let it update and after the update I check again and again it says the file needs updating. It's been behaving like that for a very long time. It is what it is so I don't even bother anymore.

My 2450

I used WebUpdater for my 2450 and I get:
Time Zone Map
Proximity Alert Text, All languages, GLX

I only updated Time Zone Map.

I have this problem too.

I have this problem too.

I just avoid letting GE run automatically

I use Garmin Express with the settings such that it does not run in the background, does not automatically launch and does not automatically update anything. That way I can avoid the sort of problems that some people have. Also, that's one less program running in the pc taking up resources.

If there's a new update, somebody in this community will probably post a notice. Occasionally, I'll have reason to plug my gps into my pc and then I'll run express and catch any updates that have been missed. If I'm the first to find a significant update, I'll post it.

It was different for different Garmins

One needed updates, other did not, different model numbers, all get updated together so should have had same updates current?
