How Do You Sort Your POI's

Anyone know how to have your POI's sorted alpha-merically on a Garmin 680? When I use the POI loader, I point to my POI's on my harddrive. They are in order but once they load to the 680 they are not in any particular order I can see. I even took every POI and changed the date and time stamp to see if that would work, but to no avail.
.
They are sorted by distance to your current position.
wow..
They are sorted by distance to your current position.
Man Your good.. you re really good .. If they ever make a game shgow about GPS, you would win hands down.. you are good!!

You're correct but they are still out of order
Yes, once you open up anything, they are sorted by distance. But, I put my POI's in subdirectories. Example:
C:POI
c:poi\stores
c:poi\restaurants
c:poi\hotels
etc.
When you use the POI installer and point to C:POI, it picks up all your subdirectories and puts them into extra's. The problem is none of them are in order. They are all over the place. Mine came up like this:
California
Stores
Restaurants
Gas
Hotel
Fast Food
etc.
Anybody know how to fix this?

Put all the folders in one folder. And load them at the same time. Each POI file will create a category. That's what you are seeing. The categories will be alphabetical. Don't put all POI files in the main folder.
For Example
>POI
>Stores
...Target.csv
...Walmart.csv
>Restaurants
...Starbucks.csv
...Taco Bell.csv
>Gas
...Shell.csv
...BP.csv
etc.
Thanks
That's exactly what I ended up doing. It's much better.

so how does it show up on your GPS?

Here are some screenshots.
This is what it looks like on my PC.

So, the categories show up in alphabetical order. Then the POIs show up by distance.
rename?
do you rename the files (.poi) on the gps unit? Meaning is it one big poi file or do you have individual poi's (so that when you change or add a new file(s), you do not have to enter each proximity distance...

Sorting POIs
I have been following this for awhile and not understanding it completely. Your screen shot has lit the bulb over my head and I have now followed your example. i am very pleased with the results.
Thanks,

Custom POIs?
Under Extras, does it still only list Custom POIs? I'd like to get rid of that pointless menu and just have my categories listed under Extras.

Categories Still Not Sorted :-(
I must be missing something because my POI Categories are still not sorting alphabetically.
My Directory Structure is:
POIs
Alerts
Boat Ramps
Religious
Restaurants
Tourist Sites
But the categories on my nuvi are:
All Categories
Restaurants
Religious
Alerts
Boat Ramps
Tourist Sites
What gives?

I don't rename my GPI files. While others have had great success with that, when I do it on my Zumo, I lose all my subcategories. Not sure why it works that way on mine, but I don't mind loading all of them each time. It only takes a few seconds, so I'm okay with it.

I can post some more screen shots when I get home from work to show the files inside the folders I have set up.
But are you creating a subfolder for each POI file under the main folder? Don't put any in the main folder.
Folders
I don't have any files in the POIs folder. All csv and bmp files are in the 5 subfolders.

Are you renaming the POI.GPI file(s)? Or are you loading all of them at the same time?
All at once
I point POI Loader to the POIs folder and let it load all of the POI files at once into one poi.gpi file.

It is not clear from my original post, but the following folders are all in the POIs folder.
Alerts

Religious
Restaurants

Well, I'm stumped. Any chance you can post a screenshot of your folders and/or your GPS screen?
No Webspace
I would, but I don't have webspace that will allow that. I can email them to you to look at if you wish.

You can email them if you want. But I almost always use tinypic.com for posting pics on forums. They provide an instant link to the picture after you upload it.
POIs sorted
Interestingly, I noticed that the POIs within a category, such as Restaurants, are sorted, but the categories are not.

Do you have subfolders in your subfolders?
Problem Solved (but I don't like the answer)
It appears that the categories are listed in the order of the datestamp on the subfolders, with the newest at the bottom. My nuvi sorted the POI files by date-time before I categorized them. The odd thing is the POIs are now sorted alphabetically within the categories. This must be a nuvi glitch.
><> Glenn <>< Garmin nüvi 2598
POIs sorted by date-time too?
I just checked, and it might just be a coincidence that the POIs are sorted alphabetically within categories. They are also sorted by date-time stamp. We'll see what happens when I modify one of the files.

nuvi now sorting correctly
Well, I'm stumped. Any chance you can post a screenshot of your folders and/or your GPS screen?
I just noticed that my nuvi 200 is now sorting categories alphabetically rather than by folder datestamp. The version 2.9 software mod must have corrected that bug.
