in NJ. Having gone through many of them on green and yellow, never gotten a ticket, I think they should remain, but like American Idol, the voters have spoken.

No Warning is Unfair?

I like the quote from one of the people that got a ticket for running a red light:

"It’s over? Thank god,” said Valdez, 27, of Perth Amboy, no doubt echoing the sentiments of untold numbers of motorists who have run afoul of the eye in the sky. “Some of the lights have warnings, some don’t. It seems like most don’t. It’s unfair.”

Does he mean that he would NOT have run the red light if he knew there was a camera present? Or was he unaware that running a red light is a violation of traffic laws?

but of course

If Target announced, "Our shrinkage minimization program has ended. In other words, we have no security cams anywhere across the nation. Please do not steal anything from us, as we have turned our cameras off. Too many people were wrongfully convicted of shoplifting when they actually didn't do it."

I wonder what would happen? Guaranteed--there would be no parking spaces available at any store.

Counting Down

All lights should have a counting down feature like those with the walk / don't walk signs that count down. It makes driving the intersection safer because it warns you of the upcoming yell.

Without this, the surprise yellow forces you to consider going through and possibly having a red light camera issue, or stopping, and possibly surprising the driver behind you. I've never been ticketed, and thankfully I have never been rear ended at a light.

I pass through multiple red light intersections on my daily commute, I have gone through many yellows, and can attest, no ticket on yellow. Yellow is a fact of life, 3 seconds is a long time if you're driving 30 mph. If you're driving 60, it is not.

I've counted--Rt. 1 in NJ was a full-on nearly 6 seconds of yellow. There is no excuse for not being able to make a decision in 6 seconds. Like I've mentioned, 4 y.o. kids can stay onside in soccer and ice hockey, a licensed driver should be able to do the same.

Also, I have not gotten a ticket but my friend has. He emailed me the link to his violation video. One car went through red, no flash, confirming the split-second delay. You'd have to be a real loser/lousy driver to get a red light ticket (knock on wood).

Yellow does not equate to panic/confusion as some would like to imply...
