Decisions, decisions

It's about time to put my 855 out to pasture. I'm considering:

2555, 2595, 2597, 3590 for starters. Welcome any comments or suggestions.

3597LMTHD.

Although it is not on your list, I upgraded from my 855 to the 3597LMTHD last January, and I have been very happy with it.

A common recommendation and likely one your going to see / hear repeated over and over.

Powered mount

For me, a powered mount is a "must have" feature. I think the only model in your list that has a powered mount is the 3590

Just upgraded from an old 260 to a 2555LMT without Bluetooth. Amazon has them for $104.99 with free shipping Love the lifetime maps and traffic. Wish I had upgraded earlier. In fact, got the smaller 2455LMT for the motorcycle since it fits the existing case I have.

Yes, you'll get plenty of other suggestions. Just liked the price point on these units smile

Happy with NUVI2555LMT

Have had my 2555 for about a year.

Good search capabilities, decent screen size, allows multiple waypoints in trip.

I like the data you can display in the dashboard.

Traffic is a bit limited, but my NUVI350 had no traffic, so this is still a huge improvement.

I use mostly for vacation trips to the southern US. If I used almost daily, maybevI would want more.

DriveSmart 65, NUVI2555LMT, (NUVI350 is Now Retired)

I'm leaning toward the 2597,

I'm leaning toward the 2597, for both price and functionality.

depends on...

With the various nmodel - the best is to make the decision on what is on sale. Costco, Best Buy or GPSCity websites have sales and i would use that to make your deicion once you narrow down what you want from the GPS. IMO

Nuvi 2797

I hoping to get a Black Friday deal on a Nuvi 2797LMT
I like the idea of a 7 inch screen seeing as I am starting to get a little optically challenged.

I hear you, that's why we recently upgraded to a 5 inch display. Bit of a trade-off between display size and how much it blocks view since we use a beanbag dash mount smile

Good luck with Black Friday deals!

I like my 855, still works. The mp3 capability is one function I really like. Cannot find any new product that has this.
Watching thread to see if anyone knows of such a unit.

nuvi 855. Life is not fair. I don't care who told you it is.

I like the 855 also, but

I like the 855 also, but starting to have issues:

reboots becoming more frequent;
takes a long time to acquire sats;
can't delete old routes/favourites;
when searching, after typing first letter, takes a couple of minutes for second letter to appear.

Just did a backup/hard reset, no improvement.

Garmin does have a few new units (4590/4592/4695) in the Asian Markets that has MP3 player. Not in the North America/Europe markets though. sad

Not me

Sorry but I would not even think on purchase a GPS with out a Bluetooth.Even if I own a 1650 that is not Bluetooth compatible ,but that one was a gift,so I can"t not complain,That is why I still holding on on my old and trust it Street Pilot C550..cause that one is compatible.I when I go to store and look at them, and the yellow tag under the Gps does not mention bluetooth..well I just stop looking.and move to the next one..

I'm with the .mp3 and

I'm with the .mp3 and bluetooth likers. Haven't really looked at upgrading but I wouldn't like to lose either from my ancient 760 - which just did the job admirably during 2 months in the UK, (after the addition of a traffic sub and the pocketgpsworld camera database), plus acted as a handsfree phone thanks to said bluetooth and .mp3 capabilities.

Consider this

I'm not sure but some of the symptoms you describe may be caused by a low memory issue.
How much free memory do you have?
Are your maps in internal memory or on the SD card?
If internal you may want to have them on an SD card to free up memory.

Have you cleared you trip log?
Go to Tools/My Data/Clear Trip Log

As far as your inability to delete favorites, a hard reset, if successful, should have removed them. Since you did hard reset it appears you have additional .gpx files in the .gpx folder or other areas.

If using Windows, do a search for ".gpx" both on the Nuvi and the SD card (if you have one.
This should find whatever favorite files that are present.
Back them up to your PC if you like, then delete them from the Nuvi.

Be advised the favorites file resides in the GPX folder as "Current.gpx. It is recreated each time you boot the Nuvi and will add any .gpx files that are present to that file. Even if you delete the current.gpx file it will appear again since it's in hidden internal memory that can't be removed.

Good suggestion. I found the traffic add-on quite accurate. I use the Smartlink also for one not-so-obvious feature:

I look up a destination that I am about to go out for and send it to the 3597. When the 3597 is turned on next and linked with the phone, it displays a message indicating that a waypoint is being received from the phone. Click on it, touch go and a route to my destination is ready for me. The waypoint is saved in the "Recent" category and can be retrieved later.

I assume the same technique works for other Nuvi models too.

thank you.

How do I do that? Is it on the Garmin website?

From the App store

Depending on your phone, it's either Google Play or iTunes for the App. I don't remember exactly how to order the traffic subscription, it may be in MyGamin under Subscriptions.

2598 from Costco

I just bought the 2598 from Costco for $170. I thought this was a good price for a unit with lifetime maps and traffic, HD traffic (best type), voice command and Costco has a great return policy. For all the features, I thought this was a good deal. Only negative is that it is not base powered.

Smartlink

Oh, I thought it was for the gps. So I can download it onto my phone and use it with the 3597? Do I have to do anything to pair the two devices?

I love..

3597 and Smartphone link

The Smartphone traffic is very good, it uses very little of my small data plan. It also works during a simulation run of a trip/route (whats the traffic like a 9:00am across Manhattan?). There is a problem though, I cannot pair my cell to my car, much better quality, it always goes to the Nuvi. BTW, the magnetic mount for the 3597 is well worth the price of admission.

Great Combination!

I also have the 3597 and Smartphone Link and recommend it highly.

The problem with your phone pairing with the 3597 instead of your vehicle can easily be solved by pressing “apps”, “Smartphone Link”, “Your Phone” and then uncheck the hands free calling box. All the other Smartphone Link features will still work normally. Just the hands free calling feature will be disabled on the 3597 allowing your phone to pair with your vehicle.

Recently purchased a 2797LMT. This 7 incher is huge and easy on the eyes. Voice recognition is great and speaking an address is a real treat.

The big screen has plenty of room for tons of info. Very happy with this unit.

Now if they would only be so kind as to add a HD TV tuner, kick the refresh rate up a little bit, add a few more voice commands to control the TV tuner... We'd be all set to watch another episode of as the world burns smile

2598LMTHD

My 4yr old 1390 froze last night and none of the reboot methods seem to work so I'm looking at getting a Nuvi 2598LMTHD at Costco for 139.99. That looks like a very good price and as I read the comments here I should be happy with it.

Consider the refurbs

To get the best value, I'd suggest checking out the refurb units. There are threads here covering the topic. Same appearance, functionality and warranty as a new unit at a more attractive price.

After buying middle of the line Garmins for several years, I've found the 3597LMTHD refurb to be the best value of any I've owned. Top of the line features at a reasonable price. Paid $220 for mine. Unfortunately none competitively priced right now.

Amazing. The 2598 is already being offered as a $110 Factory refurb:

Well take your receipt back to Costco, they now have a -$30 instant rebate for that model and they will honor that price for units bought within 30 days previously.

I'm trying to reply to an earlier post -- Any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong?
