Nuvi 855 biting the dust

Think my 855 is on the way out. Have recently been having issues with many intermittent 'reboots' while in use; unable to enter new destinations - tells me no space; unable to delete old destinations/routes. Backed unit up, did a hard reset, restored - poi's show back on the unit from PC, but not on the unit; typically have kept them on the SD - moved them to the unit, still no joy. Guess it's time to upgrade - been considering a 2595.

Comments/suggestions?

Quite some time ago, my 855 had your problem with reboots. When I deleted all the non-English language voices to make more space available, the reboots went away. I may also be convinced that when I switched from mp3 alert sounds for my custom POIs to wav files, it helped as well.

The other thing I can suggest is to use the clone method to install new map updates (all of North America can be installed) to a SD card (8GB is a good size SD card) rather than putting a smaller-than-all-of-North-America internal to the nuvi:

Note that the 855 is one of the models requiring jumping through extra hoops compared to other models for a successful clone. The specific details are carefully spelled out in the above link.

If lack of free storage space is the cause of your problems, these two suggestions may fully resolve things for you. One thing you can try as well before doing a hard reset is to clear the nuvi's track log.

Good luck.

How long did you leave the battery out of the unit. I had to take mine out for about 5 mins and also remove the sd card.

After replacing battery and rebooting it worked fine and I could reinsert the sd card.

I only had mp3s on the card.
