Proximity or Directional Detection

I was wondering if the POI alert sounds off when it detects a redlight sensor or if it is simply a proximity alarm. What I'm getting at is that, when I'm approaching an intersection with a redlight camera, the alarm would sound off two or three times. After I pass through the intersection, it would sound off only once.
.
It's a proximity alarm based upon the alert distance set up for the POI location. The GPSr doesn't "detect" anything. And it's not directional.
The alert will sound when you are within the alert distance traveling on a road in the direction of the POI. Usually, you will get a double "ding" at the beginning of the alert and then will get a single alert periodically while still within the alert distance and still on the road.
The default alert distance for redlight cameras is 1320 feet (1/4 mile). At this distance, you probably will only get one single alert after the initial double alert if you are continuously moving.
So, if a camera only points in one direction at an intersection, you will likely still get an alert when traveling in either direction.
