Central Florida

Lexus Lanes

There have been various proposals in the past year to add tolls and "Lexus Lanes" to I-4 around Orlando...

Tourist Trap Money

So many tourists complain of getting tickets down here on vacation. It's really a shame.

Glad

Glad I live in Maryland!

FL Tolls

They also have unattended toll stations where you need to have exact change. Unless you pay with coin they send you a nice fine. Isn't that nice of them...

I have always pictured...

I have always pictured myself going to visit Florida some day, but now I don't!

I don't need any more hands fishing in my pockets. We already have way too many illegal-aliens out here sucking our tax-payer funded system dry with a vengeance!! I just don't need any more senseless ways to have less money than I want.

I had to drive through one of them a couple of years ago as we didn't have the change and couldn't back up because of traffic. I waited but never heard anything.

Sounds Like Chicago

Sounds like Chicago. I don't know about other cities but when I was in Chicago, it seemed like you had to pay every other street. I am exaggerating but it's excessive.

It's Just $$ Money $$

Chicago

My thought exactly. The Chicago metro area gives central Florida a run for the money in the soak-the-driver department. High tolls on many suburban highways. High gas taxes and prices. High parking fees in the city. Pervasive RLCs. Now lots of speed cameras in the city. Nasty traffic delays. Not a good place to be a driver.

Live in Illinois. Winter in Florida

I've got the "worst" of both toll worlds.

I live in Illinois. Winter in south Florida.

End result?

An endless stream of red light cameras, tolls, just a lot of traffic.

Thing I hate the most?

You need multiple transponders for the rolling toll booths.

Supposedly, Florida has been working for years to get Illinois to be compatible with its transponders, but Illinois being the poorest, most money grabbing state in the union, isn't in a hurry to get the job done.

And the FLorida turnpike toll transponders are not compatible with the Orlando area units. So if you spend time there, you also need two.

Oh well, it's our choice to live here ... and winter there.

So I guess we'll continue to pay the price.

I have always thought

Mickey Mouse should wear a patch on one of his eyes, and have a hook for his right hand instead of three fingers!
Orlando and surrounding cities will take all your money one way or another and send you home bleeding broke.

Two cities I hate to visit on business (and pleasure) are Las Vegas and Orlando. Both say empty your wallet on the way in as you won't have anything to take out. Las Vegas, to me is a dirty, crass place anywhere along the so called "entertainment" areas. There are some nicer areas in both cities, but the commercial districts are all about separating the visitor from their money.
