Garmin Viago Adding POI files to the App

I am trying to add my own POIs to the Viago app.

So far this is all I have been able to do.

I had a back up of an old POI.gpi and I did a copy and paste in several folders in my Viago files. I found the correct place to put the POI file but the only POI that would show on my map was my food POI. This is the only item that is named the same as the Viago left hand side menu, and the right hand side menu has to have food checked. After I found the POI would show I then did the following.

First, In BaseCamp, I labeled a POI with the same label as one on the left hand menu for the built in POIs (Lodging)

Then I opened POI Loader and with my Nexus 7 connected to my PC, I downloaded the POI to my Nexus 7.
I open my Nexus 7 on my Computer and found where Downloader put my file, Garmin/POI/Lodging.gpi in the Internal Storage.

I went to my Nexus 7 file: Android/data/com.garmin.android.apps.viago/files/Garmin/POI (I added the POI folder in the Garmin folder).
I moved the Lodging.gpi file into the POI file and restarted my tablet.

I scrolled my right hand side menu until the installed POIs for lodging showed on the map (Everyday Life), my two lodging POIs were where they should be (little blue dots that you have to select).

Now I can find my files on the map if I know where to look but I can not find any place the custom POIs show in any menu.

At least I can have my pois on the map to find as long as I remember about where they should be.

Hopefully some of you with skills will play around with this and find a way to see the Custom POIs

Mary

Update

After working and working. I can not recreate the above. The only thing that works all the time is the .gpi backup file. I can see the food when food is checked and I can see Lodging when Everyday Live is checked.

I deleted and retried the ones using the labels from the menus but that did not work. I think I had a copy of my backup file in the files and that was where I was seeing all along.

Will keep trying.

Just found out if I click on a spot that I know there should be one of my pois there it will pop up. No blue dot????

Everything is there buy you can't see it. Enlarge it all the way and click on a spot that corresponds with where your POI should be and it should come up. When I go somewhere I will see if you see it along the route.

If you can see them you should be able to do the search to find them using the category you assigned it to the Viago App. That would be a plus to me instead of seeing on the map.

By the way a few problems found on Viago. Wondering if you have experience the same.If I select a poi to go to. For some reason if I go off the route provided for me. The Map connection is lost by it will re-established after a while. Other problem once off line no means to search for address, poi and etc.If you would turn off your wifi or put in Airplane mode and see if you have same problem. Have the same set up you have. Off line maps and building and sounds with Samantha street name directions.

I turned off data and searched for address. I read to put the city first, street second, then then number. It worked just fine off line.
Poi search worked OK too. The other at the bottom takes you to a menu that needs to be on line I think.
I have not driven off route so far to see how recalculate works off line. Will try this next outing.

I tested the going off route when off line last week

I tested the going off route when off line last week by taking a right turn off the shown route on a road that I knew would allow me to still get to the original destination and Viago recalculated and adjusted to the new route in a couple of seconds.

It still amazes me how fast it does everything in comparison to my 3790LMT that I always thought was the fastest Garmin that I have owned. I imagine that it has something to do with the fast quad core cpu in my Samsung Note 8 running on Android Kit Kat 4.4.2.

Hello I installed this app

Hello I installed this app on my iphone. The garmin app needs a lot of improvement so for now I will stay with MotionX GPS Drive for my local comutes and my Main Garmin 3597 for my long distance travels.

Yes, I agree with using my Nuvi 2450 for long vacations, but this is very nice for short areas and when you are using your in car unit and want to check something and don't have the Nuvi with you.

Good to know that it works so well with the recalculating. I am using it on a Nexus 7 with Kat 4.4.4 and it is very fast at all I have done with it.

Anybody figured out iPhone Viago POI

Has anyone figured out how to add POI's to an iPhone 5c?

Without jailbreaking it, that is?

I agree that my Garmin GPS's are good for long trips, but for quick, spur of the moment directions, Viago has promise.

Just out for a drive

While driving there will sometimes be a blue dot and sometimes be nothing for my POIs that I loaded to Viago.
I have never used custom Icons. I want to load a custom Icon with my POIs.

I am going to look on our site to see how to add icons to my files and see where to go from there.

Just an idea... Maybe that will make something show up for them. The POIs are there. I can click on the exact spot I placed the POI and the name will come up even though there is not an icon there.

If you look at this link https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?91264-How-can-I-get... they are finding the same thing about seeing the pois while driving.

Will look.

Just put an icon from here in one of my files, so far nothing.

EDIT: I will look into the "Mobile Alert" feature he was talking about and see what this does.
Thanks for the link. Looks like the same results as us.

Charlesd45

While looking at http://sites.garmin.com/viago/ I noticed that the screen on "Mobile Alert" is showing more than one kind of icon.
I am only able to show Food OR ATM OR Fuel but this screen has Food and ATM showing at the same time.
Are you able to show more than one icon?

Also, looks like Mobile Alert is for speed cameras, but maybe you also get the option to see more icons.

Google Map View

As I was working on my Poi problem I selected one of my unseen Pois and on the left side I scrolled to the right and a view of the Poi comes up from Google earth if you are on line.
