Installing Additional Maps

Hello all,
So I've downloaded 2 versions of a Central America/Caribbean map for the Garmin. The files are already in .IMG format. I have followed the directions and have the gmapsupp.img file in the Garmin\ directory.
However, I cannot see the map on the Garmin. So here's what I have so far:
-BaseCamp can see the map and display the data of both maps
-Garmin does not recognize the new map on myMaps.
-The file is in the Garmin\ folder
-The GPS never had another gmapsupp.img file
-I have a 3760LMT

What am I missing? The process seems extremely simple, but the GPS just can't seem to recognize the additional map?
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks!

Try

Try creating a MAP folder on the Nuvi and put the files in that folder.

Note, you don't have to use the default name gmapsupp.img. You can rename them to whatever you want in order to insure you know what each of these maps are for. For example you could name the files CentralAmerica1.img and CentralAmerica2.img

Another Option

If you're concerned about storage space on your 3760, you can also create a Map folder in the root directory of and SD card and copy the map to that. If you don't intend to use the map just don't install the SD card. This will speed up boot time since the Nuvi has only 1 map to load.

The abilty on newer units to name the map anything you want is very helpful. What the map info screen will show is NOT what you named the map, but rather the name it was given when it was created.

Tools

Are you looking in your Tools/Maps to make sure the new one is checked?

Won't Appear

It won't appear in the maps info screen since it's in the wrong folder and will not be recognized.
It MUST be in the "Map" folder whether on the Nuvi or the SD card. Even if he copied it to the "System" folder where the gmapprom.img map resides, it will not be recognized. Member Narvick states he placed it in the Garmin Folder on the Nuvi.

Edit: Just to clarify the Map folder name.
I had read and believed, the folder had to be named Map (capital M small case a&p). If you notice in member t923347's post he indicates to create a "MAP" folder(all caps).

I was wrong, the folder can have either name and the map will be recognized.

I'm

I wasn't 100% sure about the folder name but used all caps to highlight name and didn't think about the fact that taken literally MAP may not work. grin Thanks for verifying that either way will be recognized.

Thanks it worked!

I appreciate the help everyone. In all my research, everything said to put the .img file in the "Garmin" folder. Nothing ever mentioned a "Map" folder to make.

This made my day, thanks a lot!

Tested It Myself Before Posting

Glad you got it working. I think you got the info to place in the Garmin Folder from a thread that covered older Nuvi's where it needed to be named gmapsupp.img. I believe the "map" folder began with the 1XXX series and newer.

I renamed the Map folder on both my Nuvi 2460 and the SD card in it to MAP in caps. I then checked for the loaded Maps I had in those MAP folders and they were recognized.

An additional experiment I just tried confirms even renaming to "map" (all small letters) also works. Once again the maps were recognized.

So in conclusion, it doesn't matter how the folder is named as long as it indicates map and is in the root directory of either the Nuvi or SD card. It won't be recognized if placed as a sub directory in the Garmin folder.
