Nuvi 2595 screen freezes?

Have others experienced screen freezes with their Nuvis? I experienced two episodes of this during a road trip this week after multiple prior trips over the past couple of months without such issue.

Mine is the 2595LMT model purchased at Costco.

Thanks.

Welcome!

I've only had my 2595LMT a few months but never saw it freeze or any other abnormalities. These people here are very knowledgeable and can advise. Updating map and software has been done?

Questions

The easiest first step is to clear your trip log. See pp 26,68:

http://static.garmincdn.com/pumac/nuvi_2405_2505_series_OM.p...

Do you have custom POI files loaded? TourGuides? Custom audio and visual alerts? Are the freezes occurring with alerts?

Have you updated system software or maps? If the issue occurred shortly after an update (and even if not), a hard reset may solve your problem:

Be sure to back up your Favorites Saved Places before doing the reset.

Shout back with your results.

How

How do you clear trip logs?
I have a 2450.

I had to hunt a bit more than usual. See page 29 for possible solutions:

I may need to play with my 2460 to see about this and get back to you.

PS--Also try a power down/reboot rather than just going into sleep mode: See page 4 of manual. It's like a reboot of a computer that oftentimes fixes odd issues with computers.

Also, if myTrends is enabled, you may want to try using your nuvi with it disabled.

1450 Freezes too

I have a nuvi 1450 that freezes occasionally when following a route. Voice guidance continues OK, but screen does not change. Touching to go back to the home screen works and the display goes back to normal when I return to the route map display.

The problem got less frequent after I reorganized my custom POIs and reduced the size substantially, but the problem still occurs. It may work fine for 2-3 days, then freeze up every few minutes on another day. Very strange!

I just bought a new 2595, so sorry to hear it has the same issue.

Often a cause of unexplained lockups or freezes can be traced to too many voice alerts. For all practical purposes your unit can only do two at one time - play an alert and give a direction. If it's doing these and you have another POI alert go off, you could end up with a "mysterious" freeze.

I cleared my trip log and

I cleared my trip log and will see if that helps.

I do have a few custom POI files loaded.

The first freeze occurred while I was driving and I can't associate with any event. The second time it occurred when I had returned to my vehicle after a fuel stop and I pressed "View Map".

My 2595 has the latest device software and maps.

If it occurs again I will try a hard reset or return it to Costco.

Thanks for the recommendations.

Try a Hard Re-Set

Give it a try before you return it. It cures a lot of issues. I have a 2595 and I haven't seen it hanging, but I also do the hard re-set after each map and firmware update and I also to a complete power-down from time-to-time.

2595LMT freezing

Have had the 2595LMT freeze many times, often when it's inconvenient. Today I was trying to delete a number of saved trips. Each time it has to recalculate before trip can be deleted. It seemed like I had to do a hard reboot almost every time. There was one long trip that never finished recalculating after several hard reboots.

Finally decided it might be overheating. Put LMT in refrigerator for 5 minutes and it recalculated and deleted the trip with no problem.

Maybe all those freezes are associated with overheating.

Hard reset

Per Williston said, hard reset will work. It did happened to my Garmin and I did a hard reset last year and the problem went away. Every time I went on a long trip, I did a hard reset to make sure it works flawless for trip.
