My wave files don't work anymore after switching to windows 8

When I was using my windows xp computer, I had installed wave files ( my gpsr doesn't have an mp3 player) to match some of my poi's and it worked fine. I had installed the sox file in my Garmin folder with poi loader. When I switched to a new computer with windows 8, I transferred all of my poi's along with the sox file in the Garmin folder, but now when I run poi loader to transfer my poi's to my gpsr, it says it can't convert the wave files, so now, all I get is a "ding" instead of the usual " Redlight ahead". Does anyone know why it wont convert and transfer my wave files when using windows 8?

Make sure to follow

There should be no problem with Win 8.

I assume that you downloaded and installed POI Loader from
http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99...

It should have installed itself into c:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\POI Loader.

I would suggest (just to be safe) that you again download the specific version of sox.exe that we know works. This can be found at
http://www.poi-factory.com/images/csv/sox-14-0-1.zip

Put the download into some folder you will remember. Unzip the download. Then COPY sox.exe and put it into
\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\POI Loader - leaving the original in your download folder for future needs.

I have never know POI Loader say anything about "converting" wav files so it sounds like you are actually trying to execute sox.exe. This is not needed.

You should point POI Loader to a "Folder" that contains .csv/.gpx files and .wav or .bmp files (and maybe sub-folders if you know about creating categories..

Just be sure that - for sets of, say, .csv and .wav files - the character strings to the left of the extensions (.csv and .wav) are the same.

Start small - do only the camera files and make sure your alerts work.

Let us know how you progress.

BINGO! I had put the sox

BINGO! I had put the sox file in my programs files , NOT my Program files (x86) folder. Thanks for your help.

You are not the first

and will not be the last. It is a common mistake because Garmin changed where POI Loader was installed.

Thanks for reporting your success.
