That's like asking if Lincoln is better than Cadillac. It's personal preference as each has features and options you can choose from to best suit you needs.

Garmin

Had a tomtom every 3 months I had to send it back for a refurbished one, at my expence. Now I have a Garmin, No big problems. Small software glitches that they repair over the phone. You talk to someone in USA not india or phillipines. Took the tom tom on a 5 weerk trip the other year on the first day it failed, Had to go to AAA offices along the way to get directions . when I got home they said they had it fixed, but offered me no compensation.

Personal choice

Some like this other like other.

TT or?

If Walmart has a Tom Tom on Black Friday, I might buy it. I used a Go One(?) for a week and I liked some of the features.

How Do You Define "Best"?

As others have said, it is mostly a matter of personal preference.

In addition, you should sit down and write up a list of what features are important to YOU. Both companies offer an assortment of models with different features at different prices. The product that best fits your own list of important features is the one you should look for. If both companies make models that fit your wish list, then start looking at price to make the choice between them.

Which?

I would stay with Garmin

Garmin

I like Garmin, I use a lot of my own POI's and loading them is much easier load on a Garmin. I like the simple way Garmin finds an address, the larger screen buttons. I have always used a Garmin.

Like everybody I don't like change. So it is really what you get used too.

TomTom's traffic in my country is far better, their bandwidth for the traffic provider is wider, in Christchurch 3 years after the earthquake there still some 200 closed roads which they are working on; TomTom lists them all, Garmin has about 25% of them listed.

I have had Tomtom's out to try and found that everything you can do on a Garmin is also possible to be done on a TomTom.

So it's really personal choice, both are great companies and I would be happy with either brands.

Today is a gift, that's why they call it the present...

thankfully to all

OK I like Garmin, other user say in Europe TomTom map is much better than Garmin..So I use my GPS in USA.

Garmin App On iPhone

Garmin app on the iPhone is an outstanding GPS. I won't be buying another stand-alone GPS device again.

When you are dead, you don’t know that you are dead. It is only difficult for the others. It is the same when you are stupid.

I Prefer TomTom

Because it has features that I want. However, Garmin makes an excellent GPS also. You won't make a wrong choice with either.

Garmin for me

Garmin for me, but I'll add I never had a Tom Tom.

I've been using Garmin for years with only minor complaints about which way the thing routes me sometimes.

My first GPS was a Garmin Street Pilot c330, I think I got it around 2005 or 6. Since then I have upgraded a couple times. I stuck with Garmin basically because I figured the interface would be similar to what I already had for each upgrade. My most recent, the in dash navigation in my Jeep. They had two flavors, one being a Garmin product, so that's what I took. I'm a loyal customer like that with many things, and most of the time I don't have to buy all new accessories or learn a new way of doing things.

That said a friend of mine always had Tom Tom GPS's He was getting fed up with Tom Tom so he bought a Garmin, after me telling him I loved mine. Well according to him the differences were comparable to PC vs MAC and he hated the Garmin. I think it was a lack of patience in learning a new way of doing things, but that is why I stuck with Garmin. He went back to Tom Tom.

Bottom line, do the research, read reviews on the products by actual customers not the critic type sites and choose which best suits your needs.
