E-ZPass Is the Best Tracking Device That's Already in Your Car - Watch out NYC

I saw this entertaining talk at DefCon last month. The article seems to assume that the tracking is being done by the E-ZPass organizations. It can be done by anyone with an interrogator (e.g. NY DoT) and they do not need to include this in your agreement, since it is not being done by the toll agency.

The best way for the government to enslave people is to let us do it to ourselves.

Good point. I wouldn't expect the toll authorities to keep the registration information secure. What you can do is wrap your transponder in aluminum foil and put it in your glove compartment when you're not driving on a toll road. Of course if you forget to put it back, you got problems.

... and I am glad I don't have one. I figured it would be a matter of time before they figured out "other" uses for those besides tolling.
