Garmin 1390 doesn't show secondary roads, takes roundabout routing

My Garmin 1390 lately only shows major roads (highways, interstates), no neighborhood roads, and takes very roundabout routing (like 9 miles to go the last mile to a destination since it uses major roads and not neighborhood roads). I can't find any setting that might cause this.

My maps are kinda old, from 2010, could they have 'expired'? I am working on updating maps but I need an SD micro card (ordered) first.

Map deselected?

Could your current City Navigator map be deselected? Go to your Map Info page--or myMaps or whatever it's called on a 1390 and see what maps are there and see if the City Navigator is checked. Let us know what you find.

No, maps don't expire, but they can be deselected, corrupt, etc. which leaves you only with the Basemap (major roads only).

On the other hand, I didn't think the Basemap could be used to route yourself to a destination so there may be something else going on.

But first tell us what your 1390's Map Info page shows.

Easy Fix

Just play with the +/- on the right side of the screen. I had the same problem last week and for the life of me I couldn't figure out why it was only showing the major roads and no residential side roads. After playing with it one afternoon, I accidentally hit the +/- on the side and the side roads came back. Mine is a 1390T also and thought there was something wrong with it.

see it all the time

Welcome to the world of Garmin routing. I regularly see (and bitch about) mine wanting to take me on more major roads, past 3 extra traffic lights, into much more dense traffic, when I have "shortest route" selected in my settings. Yet when I turn onto the road that I know that I want to take, it quickly recalculates and tells me that my new route is faster and .5 mile shorter. It clearly knows the road and the distances involved, but it refuses to consider that road during the route calculations. And the speed limit is the same on that road as the route that I'm trying to avoid!

Map deselected

Thanks, you are exactly right. My newer maps were on the SD micro card so the original maps were deselected. Then somehow the SD card came out of the GPS (got lost). I just now selected the old maps and the neighborhood streets came back. Now to get the new SD card installed and updated maps loaded again. Woohoo!
