California: Firm Rigs Data In Bid To Keep Red Light Cameras

Ever since November when voters in Murrieta, California rejected red light cameras at the ballot box, American Traffic Solutions (ATS) has been on a campaign to turn them back on. The strategy has been two-fold: use the courts to overturn the public's decision, then convince the city council to reactivate the devices in the name of public safety. Anti-camera activists say they have caught the photo ticketing company manipulating data to achieve these ends.

No surprise at all! "High

No surprise at all! "High profile people" willing to do anything for $$$$

The Newspaper?

No surprise that this is "reported" in thenewspaper.

Surprise

Surprise. Just follow the money.

What they need is some serious prosecutions.
Perhaps, also, a change of political leadership.

Fred

I'm glad they reported this. It shows the lengths that these "companies" will go to in order to trample on the rights of people and take their money. An election was held and the cameras lost. Let the intent of the voters be implemented.

Update

Murrieta will consider suing American Traffic Solutions for continuing to collect data on city drivers after the City Council ordered the Arizona company to shut off the data-collecting cameras.

American Traffic Solutions representative Charles Territo said Tuesday, April 16, that the company turned off all components of the technology on Thursday after the city’s reaction.

I read the comments from that article. It was a good point to bring up the 666 bill again. The comments I don't particularly care for are from Evad Eviler. They claim that now that the cameras are turned off, people are zipping through red lights again. The cameras have been off for how long now?

Good work

Good work on the investigative reporting on this. Would love to see citizens have the power to challenge red light cameras here in Chicago, but the laws in the state are written to effectively neuter voters. Our voices are not being heard.

yep!

Not surprised, really

Not surprised, really

You are right about that,

You are right about that, for sure.

The other issue is that they are trying to overturn the legal mechanisms for a popular vote in the State. If politicians support that, they surely need to be removed.

Fred

It's all about the GREED!

It's all about the GREED!

ATS is a crook company!

Good things the local government is suing ATS.
