W7 Home Premium

As we wait for another W7 Pro user, I can say that they install and work well in Windows 7 Home Premium, both 32 and 64-bit versions, and required no special settings.

Agreed

same with me

Windows 7 Pro

Got Windows 7 Pro recently and had same issues. Installed POI Loader and sox on new computer. Deleted the entire file folder using Windows Explorer(NOT control panel uninstall!!! Just right click and delete entire Garmin file folder) Removed the entire folder using explorer from my old computer, that had Windows XP, saved it on memory stick. Took it to new computer, put it in programs file so it will be like the one I just deleted. It worked great. The shortcut from the original file works also.

Another item I found was that an old sound file I had downloaded, saved and transfered to new computer was bad. Deleted it and downloaded again and it worked fine.

Web update can't comment on.

WebUpdater, POI Loader and other Garmin software (BaseCamp, MapSource) work fine on my Windows 7 Pro 64-bit system.

These programs also run fine on Windows 8 Pro 64-bit...

I use Windows 7 Professional (64 bit), I have no problems with Web Updater, POI Loader and any other Garmin software.

Like others have posted, it

Like others have posted, it works here for me as well.

Yes they work on Windows 7 and 8

but unless you have a touch screen on you laptop I would recommend staying with windows 7. If it were not for a compatibility problem with an internet site I use, I would go back to windows 7.

Works for me too

Windows 8, 7, Vista, and XP all 64-bit - no problem (4 friends computers in 3 weeks).

Win 7 Enterprise 64bit

No issues

Just returned a new Windows

Just returned a new Windows 8 Dell laptop back to dell. Will be getting one with Windows 7 instead.

Windows 8 has Internet Explorer version 10 which broke F5 Networks VPN which large companies buy for super secure connections for employees to use from home. One even gets a little electronic gizmo which displays a numeric password which changes every minute. Anyway, all this needs is Internet Explorer, and Windows 8 broke this functionality. The IT support guy at work spent all day with the laptop and gave up. It is not possible to install an older version of IE onto Windows 8.

There are other things windows 8 broke, but this was the most important item for my home. For example, making backups using an Acronis CD wouldn't work.

I suppose it is good that people are reporting Garmin's software works with Windows 8.

Bleeding Edge

I rarely like to be on the bleeding edge of any new software. My wife's trusty PC runs WinXP and works just fine. I stuck my neck out a couple years ago and bought a Win7 x64 laptop, which basically works pretty well, although HP never developed a compatible driver for my older printers, so I print from the WinXP PC mainly.

I'm not going to be forced into buying all new hardware (printers) just because of a new OS.

I don't see me going to Win8 anytime soon.

...

I was very upset that HP printer drivers were not provided for Win 7 and my HP 6500 wireless all in one. When I went to Win 7 - it never occurred to me that HP would do that to such a large set of customers.

Buy New

They want you to buy new printers. I could have bought new printers... Canon. wink

I managed to kludge a workaround over my local network so I'm not totally without printing capability on the Win7 laptop.

Did you check HP's site?

You mean these? They even have Windows 8 drivers.

Like you I have an XP desktop connected to an old by reliable laser printer that Windows 7 doesn't support. If I have a big print job, I use a free program called PDF Creator on my Windows 7 laptop. When I print from the laptop, it creates a PDF file that I can then move over to the XP machine and print on the laser printer.

Great Minds

Great minds think alike. I also have PDF Creator installed on my Win7 laptop. wink

Most times I can print directly to one of my printers, but on the occasion that I can't, I'll send it to PDF Creator. Great program.

I had to buy a new printer for Windows 8. Have two printers the real old HP that is solid as a rock and never lets me down was the one with no updated driver. The other one a Canon at first didn't work but turned off the computer and left the Canon pluged in to the computer and it found a driver once it booted up.

Spent several hours with HP on the phone and was never able to get the printer to load fully and properly. Indeed, HP would up selling me a HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus and their statement that I was not going to get my 6500 to work.

I still have and would love to have it as my second printer. I still have a XP machine and a Vista machine.

I find that surprising since HP say it is compatable with W7.

Poi Loader FINE!

I've been using an older version of POILoader for years with W7-64 Ultimate, and it works great with my Nuvi 660.

there is no reason to use an old version of the loader with that device. The newer versions work extremely well.

To each his own, especially when the end results are the same.
