Lockheed Martin powers up its first GPS III satellite, stays on track for 2014

Flicking the switch clears it for testing and keeps the GPS III program's 2014 launch window within view. More importantly, the activation takes us one step closer to improved GPS accuracy for civilians and soldiers alike.

Block III will be fun--

The new birds are going to be a lot of fun. Yes, you'll need new receivers to take full advantage of the new capabilities, but particularly for those problem situations, they're going to make a big difference.

Probably be 2018 - 2020 before there's enough Block III birds up to make a difference.
