It is not user friendly. Can anyone suggest a model that doesn't require a PHD to operate?

Unless we have an idea of your expectations, we can't be of much help. You may want to try some of the other sites such as GPSWORLD and peruse their reviews of different brands and models.

We need to know a few things

1st which brand and model gps do have, some body will have one just like yours and be able help.
2nd what are you trying to do, just navigate, or load POI's, connect it the computer, maybe trying to find some software.
