255W went bonkers

I knew where I was going but had it on and telling me the route. Stopped for gas. When I shut off the car the screen asking to turn off GPS was locked up. I unplugged power adapter. Powered it up and off. Reconnected the car adapter and it finally booted up normally but it insisted I turn right on Route 22 and the voice said turn right and GO OFF ROAD. I have never heard it say that the entire time I've owned it. Needles to say the destination was not OFF ROAD. Seems OK now. I've just lost a little confidence in it.

I've actually been shown to

I've actually been shown to be off road when I was on the highway.

255W

I've programmed certain gas stations with GPS coordinates from MapSource and saved them as favorites rather than using the stations actual address.

When I put that gas station as a destination and just before arrival the unit will say "navigate off road". The unit wants you to get to those specific GPS coordinates but obviously doesn't know that you must drive through the parking lot to get to the pumps. (Parking lots are not included in the GPS maps)

If your in a humongous parking lot and set a destination it'll start by saying to drive to highlighted route. It wants you to get on a road that it recognizes before it starts telling you to turn right or left.

If your on an active route and the store you chose as a destination is in that same humongous parking lot I think it'll tell you to navigate off road to get to your destination as it doesn't recognize the parking lot.

Perhaps when your unit told you to navigate offroad it was because you were on an active route and that it didn't recognize the parking lot you were in and wanted you to get on a street it knew. If you weren't on an active route and placed a destination in your GPS I think it would have started off by saying drive to highlighted route.

I've experienced the above (navigate off road) with my 255W when being on an active route/destination.

It's also a good idea to periodically preform a hard reset of the unit.

Cheers smile

And your point is? I have a 3590LMT and 3790LMT
I only need one, but I have two. They both use different mounts, not like i can take one out one day and the other another day. Hey...use the c320 for your bicycle...just kidding. mrgreen
