Try this

Cameras are coming

I rode North from Lake Placid the other day and at some point south of Plattsburg was a camera installation wrapped in plastic . . . Cameras appear to be coming to the Northway.

The New York State Legislature has not yet authorized any speed cameras anywhere in the state - to the best of my knowledge. Could be a traffic camera.

NY thruway speed traps

The state police have this road well covered. They use marked and unmarked cars. No point in considering specific locations - the whole thing is a speed trap. Some cars are equipped with sensors that read the license plate and instantly search a national database for outstanding violations, both auto and criminal.

I suggest you stay within 10 mph over the speed limit. Others will pass you. They are your protection and will provide entertainment further down the road receiving a summons. Remember the new law to move one lane to the left when driving past a stopped police car.

Keep an eye out ahead and in the rear-view mirror. When you see a cop, ease off on the gas. He will see your drop in speed and know you are alert.

NY Thruway

Thanks everyone for the input. I was aware the State Police were using unmarked cars on the NYTW but I didn't know they didn't have speed cameras in service yet-----Thanks again
