Question about road announcements

Can I program my TomTom to say the name of the road I am suppose to turn on? For example: "Turn left at Loundon Blvd" or "take the Rosemont Exit".

Welcome to the Factory.

Having the ability to announce street names is within the individual hardware and software for the unit and can't be added as the internal ROM software can't be changed by the end-user. Sorry, you'll just have to upgrade.

Probably not, but go to the

Probably not, but go to the TomTom ad for you model number and see if the unit you own has "Speak street names" in the spec or ad.If so you do if not....sorry but since you did not give your unit model number, no one on line will know.

...

Or get a Garmin. grin

Tomtom Model type

I just found the model type. It is an XL.

XL Does Turn by Turn

That depends on which XL model you have. I checked out instruction manuals for a couple and they appear to offer different options. The XL One, for example, doesn't seem to offer turn by turn instructions (but does have voices). The manual for the Tom Tom XL 340S shows the receiver does have turn by turn street name ability. If the 340S Tom Tom operates like other brands you'll have to be sure you've chosen a Text To Speech (TTS) voice from the preloaded voice library. If you don't have an owner's manual just search for one online or go to the Tom Tom website.

Cheers wink

The answer regarding whether or not your TomTom can do TTS (Text-To-Speech) depends upon which model you have.

In addition, if you do have a model that has TTS, you will have a choice of voices to use. The TTS capabilities depend upon whether you choose to use a computer voice or a recorded voice. The recorded voices have less capability than the computer voices, so if your model does have TTS, make sure that you select a computer voice.
