Canadian Mom & Pop restuarants

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas for starting a project for this, I have the US version, and have all of the non-chain places..which are great by the way 
When I was living in Alberta, there were many non-chain, mom & pop places that were fantastic, but that was 10 years ago, and I can't remember the names..
I tried to find a link on here to see if anyone had started one, but didn't find it..

do they have to have the words "Family Restaurant" in the name? Places I'm thinking of are non-chain and offer good food and good value.

No, the place I mentioned just happens to be named that way.

That's exactly the sort of place I'd expect to see in such a POI group.
