NUVI 2555LM: adding custom POIs for the first time

question
Hello All!

My wife gave me a Nuvi 2555LM for Christmas and I want to add a custom POI file for my job. I downloaded the Garmin file from my company website and it is in GPI format already and the Garmin loader program will not recognize it.(only CSV and GPX files are read by the loader program)

Question: since the file is already in the GPI format, can I just use windows on my PC and copy the file into my Garmin? If so, what folder do I copy the file into? The folders listed do not show one for POI's, but there is one folder titled GPX.

Don't Copy To GPX folder

Welcome to POI Factory, generous wife you have.

The GPX folder is for Favoites (Saved Places) not for POI's. If no POI folder existes just create a new folder with Windows Explorer and copy it to that POI folder.

Since it's already in a Garmin .gpi file you don't need to load it with POI loader.

You can also put it on an SD card that was formatted to Fat32 and creating a folder named Garmin\POI.

Create POI folder

A POI folder in the ROOT of the GPS or ROOT of the SD/micro-SD also works fine for your .GPI files on that device.

Make a backup

Before doing anything in the nuvi "drive" folders, make a complete backup as it came from the factory. See the FAQs on this site.
