How to download sound and voice files for TomTom

Call my stubborn. But I do not have the patients to read through all the FAQ's that are not on the subject that I have put in the search engine.
So can anyone tell me why the sounds and voices are listed but do not tell you how to download and install them? Is this something you must learn by trial and error or is there actually a place that explains it?
I find the files but when I click on them all they do is play. When I try to download them the choice of downloading is not there. SO what do I do?
Thanks Because it is about to drive me up the wall and it is a very short drive.

Are you attempting to download the files from here, or from the TomTom web site?

For files here on POI-Factory, you will right-click on the filename and then select "Save to the download directory" from the drop-down menu that will appear. (That is what I get with Opera, it may be slightly different with other web browsers.)

Once the files are on your computer, you can install them with either "TomTom HOME" or "MyTomTom", depending upon which model GPS you have. (Until relatively recently, HOME is what was used, but a lawsuit by Microsoft forced TomTom to create a new utility called "MyTomTom" for use with the more recent GPS models.)

With best wishes,
- Tom -

Try using the TT Home to operate your unit>>

once done close down the operate unit function but don't leave TT Home, the sound, voice options will come active...always works for me wink

He may need MyTomTom, not TT HOME

The OP says that he has a Via 1435. I may be in error, but I think that this is one of the models that uses the "MyTomTom" utility to install POI files, not the "HOME" utility.

Which brings up a point. I have heard that "MyTomTom" was originally unable to transfer POI files from the computer to the GPS units, and that it was late summer/early fall of this year before that capability was added through updates to "MyTomTom". If this is correct, it sounds like it would always be prudent to check that the latest version of "MyTomTom" is installed on your computer if you need it instead of "HOME".

Voices POI

Once again. I have a VIA 1435 Tom Tom. I have my Tom Tom on my computer which says it is up to date. When I get to a voice that I want on this site right or left clicking does not allow me to download the voice.
It does give me the option to save the link like that would do any good. Also what format does the sound have to be in. Mine keeps telling me that MPG3 is not supported?
It would be nice if the manual would be specific about adding and deleting material to the unit. Especially the POI's that came with it like golf courses. I do not need them. Also there was no mention of a slot for a SD card.
I have to upload my POI's to the website and then install them on my TOM TOM.
But back to the voices. There seems to me that there are no options to get the voice I want from this site.

Use "save link as"

It should show up and give you an option to save.

Use .wav files for sound

I have .wav files for POI sounds on my TomTom and they seem to work fine.

Mytomtom-based Tomtoms are bad idea

This depends on what Tomtom you have. There are two varieties: one is "Tomtom Home"-based, where "tomtom home" is desktop application; another is "mytomtom"-based, where "mytomtom" is website. Tomtom Home has been pretty much mature product, but then Tomtom lost copyright lawsuit to Microsoft, and had to abandon Home and create another solution from scratch - which is what MyTomtom is. Mytomtom has too many features that are not yet implemented, despite the fact that Tomtom keeps promising them and even sells the devices with that functionality already advertised. It's not a huge overstatement to say that MyTomtom is practically not working at all at this point. Whether this will be improved is a big question, because there are signs that Tomtom has switched their focus to phone-based devices. Check out big thread "I want the functionality I paid for" on Tomtom forum, there's lot of information and lots of frustration. I have actually returned Tomtom 1535 because of this, after struggling with Tomtom Support (so called) for 2 months, where pretty much every their response was starting with "Unfortunately,".
