Garmin nuvi 350 longer and longer time...

Recently my Garmin nuvi 350 is stuck on "Acquiring Satelites" for a long, long time... Sometimes even 1/2 hour or more.

I'm running the latest (4.60) software version on the device.

I did the following things to try to solve the problem:

  • Power Cycle (still no satelites)
  • Reset (still no satelites)
  • Cleanup (still no satelites)
  • Answered yes on the question "Have you moved hundreds of miles" -- got the satelites, but after trying to find them for 2-3 minutes.

I think this is abnormal behavior. Did anyone experience anything like that?

Satellite Satellite, Where Are You

I have also had this problem. It's not terribly frequently, but when it happens, it's a pain.

I haven't kept a log, but I tend to think that cloud cover contributes, but isn't the only factor. Possibly heavy cloud, combined with having sat for a few days, plus trying to acquire satellites while moving.

I usually say a few curse words, under my breath and wait for the questions about if I'm more than 100 miles away, etc. Once it goes through that faze, it seems to connect fairly quickly.

I've gotten in the habit, mounting it in the car and turning it on a few minutes before I really want to use it. My usual impatience, is then distracted by the other things, that I'm doing before I leave. Needless to say, I lock the car.

Good luck.

Not a cloud problem

Cloud cover will have little, if any, effect on satellite acquisition times.

Length of time since your last lock will have more of an effect.

Attempting to get a lock while moving will cause the longest delay.
