You still have dial-up?

Me too, Wow!

I thought I was one of the last on dial-up when I left it years ago.

Why would Garmin even release you 2012.10?
2012.20 is out soon, even before Aug 17:)

Return it!

You're assuming the 2012.20 update DVD comes out at the same time as the new downloadable 2012.20 map. I don't need the DVD version for my lifetime updates so I can't confirm this, but I assume from the OP's first post that the DVD version of a new map update becomes available about 3 months after it's been out for download. If so, the dial-up folks or others who need a new map update installed via DVD will always be a few months behind the update download folks.

DVD map.

Does Garmin release all versions of CNNA on DVD? I was under the impression that they only release one DVD version per year (the .10 version). If you want the quarterly map updates you have to download. Does anyone know?

The only DVD version I have seen of the maps are the initial release for the year. I imagine it's a business decision as ordering a quantity of DVDs for each release would be guesswork on the number of copies that would sell. They save the cost of mastering a version each quarter and ordering a minimum order that may be left in stock.

Is it possible that there's one standalone (i.e., to be used by folks purchasing the map who do not have the map on their GPS now--e.g., European map holders buying the US map for the 1st time) CNNANT DVD issued annually but that the update version of CNNAT is issued quarterly for lifetime map subscribers (on dialup, etc.)?

I ask because if the map update is only issued for the xxxx.10 version of a map, then windwalker is incorrect in stating that the 2012.20 update DVD is about to be shipped.

I don't know (or need to use) the DVDs but ask so that we can clarify what we think Garmin does. The update DVD would not be something typically offered for sale but would be made available to those lifetime map subscribers on dialup, etc. who call Garmin and ask for it.

Did you mean 2012.20. Look

Did you mean 2012.20. Look like everybody got 2012.10 for awhile.

The cost of building a release master would be the same for the lifetime subscribers as it would be for the one-time upgraders. A nominal fee just doesn't pay for the effort and the media. If you are a lifetime subscriber on dial-up, I suggest you hike over to some business with free WiFi and do the upgrade using their somewhat speedier connection. If it was my business, I wouldn't go to the effort of building a new master with each release and not having a fairly substantial number of orders to pay for the effort with each release. But then I don't run Garmin or even own stock in the company.
