AW_Root_Beer.csv problem?

confused

Hey probably don't know what I'm doing, but here's what I found and I don't know what to do to fix it.

I downloaded this file and wondered why it didn't work.
AW_Root_Beer.csv

Then I looked at the file and it looks a mess compared to other files I compared it to.

I hope someone has an older version of the file sitting around.

It's corrupt

It looks like it hasn't been updated in 2 years. The data fields appear skewed across multiple fields, looks like someone with a lot of time and patience might be able to unravel it, but who knows how good the data is to start with. Maybe Miss POI will pull it if the maintainer doesn't want to fix it.

Gee, I like A&W also.

Another file that should go

That is another file that should be pulled/ repaired by the maintainer. He is not a regular so most likely disappeared. I would suggest a note to Miss POi about the file and that it be pulled or up for adoption.

I like A&W as well, unfortunately I don't pass them very often. I am currently waiting to hear back regarding the adoption of another POI that I would like to take over.

Does anyone know of a list of POIs up for adoption, or does such a list not exist?

No list of files for adoption

shrifty: It has been suggested to get a link up on top for files for adoption. The problem is that they still belong to someone even though they have had no maintenance to them. Miss Poi once stated that she would like to contact the maintainer to find out if they will maintain it or give it up.

Some files do not require constant maintenance. A & W I would suspect does, same as Best Buy, motel/hotel files, etc.

I have noticed a few POIs not being maintained very well. I can definitely vouch for the Dunkin Donuts maintainer, he is very quick to make corrections! I've submitted 2 corrected locations, and within a day they were fixed!

Coutn me in as an adopter

I am hoping to adopt a POI file also, I have about 95% of the work complete.

A bit off topic...

Which POI are you working on?

I finished a POI for Hooters in the US and Canada, and started to work on the International locations.

Driving back on subject... I was looking online at the A&W locations locator, it seems that its search pattern is a 200 mile radius for A&Ws, so I'm not quite sure how one could be 100% certain to have all of the locations.

I wouldn't mind starting to work on this one, but think I could use some assistance to get it completed.

A&W .. mmmm

I like the original A&W's myself. When I saw this thread I kept thinking about a frosty mug and started working on the listing myself (none close by me sad ).

I'll either volunteer to take it over or I can pass the file on to anyone that wants to do it. I have all of the address info from their web site, but have only visually map-verified 75 out of the 230 reverse geocoded entries.

shrifty- I found out you could enter just the state and get a list. Yep, I did all of 'em. Told you it made me thirsty. grin

All I have is juice, iced tea, and milk....

JD4x4 -- I could go for one right now, no such luck (30 miles as the crow flies to the closest one). When I did a search for Alaska, it only showed the ones in Anchorage, but did not list the one in Fairbanks. Not sure how to get the "complete" state. Even when I searched for California, it left out the LA area and showed only those in the middle of the state. Any ideas?

Hmm

Hmm. I assumed that it showed all for the state. I got 2 in Anchorage & 1 in Wasilla when I did AK, but sure enough I got another when I typed Fairbanks, AK.

Not sure I got all of them now either. By the way, I only pulled out the ones that were NOT multi-branded (because I didn't care about the KFC's and Long John Silver's).

Btw, my daughter went to school in Fairbanks and now lives/works in Anchorage. Gotta get back up there on my scooter one of these days.

Edit- I just did CA again.. if you type San Diego then San Francisco it looks like you get the rest. This might only apply to the larger states? CA, AK, TX?? Pick a few big cities spread across each in addition to just typing the state??

Alaska is nice

I wouldn't care for the KFC's and LJS's either. I wonder if their Root Beer is up to the same standard?

I flew up to Anchorage a year or two ago, just before Mt. Redoubt blew. Great state to visit, wouldn't mind going back again!

Which POI are you working on?

I am working on Ohio Wineries and Vineyards. I also need to see if there is a POI file for the Lake Erie wine region of Western New York; I was there today and there is only about 20 wineries to list.

That would be an interesting POI to see. I didn't realize there were wineries in Ohio, typically I would think of CA for that.

Yes Virginia, there is wine in Ohio

There are around 112 wineries in Ohio and around 20 in Western New York/Eastern Pennsylvania.

I saw one or two in Western PA, but haven't really looked though. Could be more.

(Back on Subject) I could really use an A&W Root Beer right now! Wonder if it is possible to get a home brewing kit for it?

There are plenty more wineries than 2 or 3 in Western PA -

Thank you for the help, this saves me the time to find the POI. It does look like an inactive file.

Wineries Don't move Too Often

pmhennessey wrote:

Wineries don't really pick up and move down the street like many other businesses can so the file is probably still good even though there has been no recent downloads. You can try to email the maintainer to see if they answer but the user doesn't show any recent activity on the site.

I've loaded the PA, OH, MD, VA and Western NY from this website on my friends because they stop at them often during our motorcycle trips. Haven't had any problems so far. I just have to find the local beer store for our evening stopovers, I'm easy.

But new wineries seem to be opening every time you turn around so those files are most likely out of date.

There are almost 40 additional wineries to add to the file. I have contacted the original poster and he is willing to give up the file because he currently does not have time to keep it up to date. I must be doing something wrong or making the wrong request because I am still waiting for an answer, but I can be patient and see what happens.

But we are getting off topic, I am looking forward to a fixed A&W POI.

I just bought a 2 liter bottle of root-beer this weekend, not quite the same. A new POI would be good. I'd be willing to help get this one restarted or updated if necessary.
