Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and surrounding area

I just got back from a work related trip to Austin. After choosing a car at the rental facility I set up my Garmin and entered the address for the hotel which is about 30 minutes away from the airport. Driving down 71 the GPS told me to take an exit not more than a mile from the airport then reenter 71 at the next ramp. Proceeding a little further it directed me to take the east bound ramp for 71 which would have headed me back to the airport. After I ignored this direction it recalculated and all was well until I reached my destination. Very strange behavior from the latest map.

Austin is weird.

Off and on the highway

I have seen that behavior in older maps in other areas. Chicago on 90 heading northwest of O'hare and 35 in Kansas between Emporia and Olathe.

I think there is a seam in the map tiles at those places or something similar which causes the GPS to not see the road as continious.

Lots of changes

There is a lot of construction and many changes going on in that part of Austin. Some of it is related to the new toll roads that have gone in, and some to the new flyovers going in at I-35 and Ben White. If you're using older maps, there are definitely going to be some changes.

Yes, Austin is weird - that's why we love it so much! Happy trails!

Not so sure its Austin ..

.. because I was no where near there. Since the map update I have had 2 weird recalculations when pulling off the interstate for gas while navigating.

I got off the interstate with to re-enter straight ahead of me at the bottom of the ramp. I just turned right into a gas station. After filling up the zumo 660 had recalulated me to going down the side road in the opposite direction to a neighborhood and doing figure 8s before returning to pull back on the interstate. I just pulled back onto the interstate and it recalculated again to entering the interstate and I was on my way. Hmmm!

I wonder what was in the neighborhoods that was so important? Or why the GPS has decided it like figure 8s in neighborhoods???

Crazy enough though, I diabled U-turns in the Avoidances and it hasn't don't it again.
