Importing existing waypoints to Audi Navigation system

I have Garmin GPS devices and recently acquired an Audi with a built in Nav system. Does anyone know of a method to import my existing waypoints into their system? The dealer was not aware of any and the manual did not discuss this topic. The system does have an available hard drive with 40 gb memory so storage is not a problem.

Nope

Short answer: Nope. I can't imagine there's any way to do what you want. Of course I "could" be wrong but I don't think so. I have a Ford with a nav system (didn't want it but it came with the car) and I wouldn't waste my few brain cells worrying about trying to do such a thing.

You can't import POIs with

You can't import POIs with built-in GPS head unit for any car maker. Don't waste your time.

Thanks for the info. I was

Thanks for the info. I was afraid of that. Guess I'll keep my Garmin close by.

Built-in Units

That's another rason not to spend the big bucks for the built-in units. They look nice and the large screen is cool and the BlueTooth on most of them is really, really good.

But you can't "tweak" them like you can the portable units.

I like to load my Speed camera info and personal POI favorties on my Garmin units.

Audi Rns-e only

Try NavPoint.com. This is the only way that I know of to add way points to an Audi Rns-e. Not valid for any other Audi navigation system.

There should be a way

If the map can be updated, there must be a access port so sort to do it. And, that will be your way into the system to do modification.

Almost all auto manufacturers don't make their own GPS. So, you just have to find out who is the "true maker" of the firmware/software on that GPS unit, then start from there.

Audi Nav system Custom POI's

I agree that there must be a way... but it's apparently much easier said than done.

I have found it extremely difficult to even get past the first step in learning who is the real manufacturer of the system and what "model" number they match.

To add to the difficuly of tweaking the Built-in systems, most of them do not have any external connections, such as a USB, to use to try to push any modded software/firmware to it. The "updates" are all loaded off of the DVD.

I have scanned many a forum for many years to try to see if anyone has been able to do any "hacks" to add POI's or other Alerts and to date, the only Mod I have seen accomplished is a change of the splash screen. And that has been accomplished on only a few particular models.

That's why I have never spent the extra for a built-in system.

Here is one of the doors

As you mentioned, The "updates" are all loaded off of the DVD. I would start from that DVD. Look into the file structures, examine the files and you may even be able to modified it, and make your custom DVD.

Also, audi dealer may be a big help as well. But, you will not get anything out of sales nor service advisers, their job is "to sell", not "give away information". I would suggest you talk to the technicians who actually work on your car, they usually have much more inside information and are more willing to share.
