Triggering Alert Sound

I have a NUVI 765T. Has anyone figured out a way to play an Alert Sound by itself or standalone, without simulating a route past the coordinates, or driving past the coordinates?

In our manual (I have a 765 too) on page 49 it says
"Changing the proximity Point Settings
You must have proximity points (such as custom POIs, a safety camera database, or a TourGuide file) loaded to adjust the proximity points settings.
Touch Tools > Settings > Proximity Points

Proximity Alerts - touch change to turn on or off the alerts when you approach custom POIs or safety cameras."

If you have not downloaded a manual, look at
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/30393
to see how.

As the question previous implies, you do not get alerts on the built-in POIs.

They are custom alert sounds from POI-Factory

I want to be able to play the .wav or .mp3 file without selecting a route or simulating a route.

You should be able to do so, but there are some rules.

You can't based on the criteria in your post. You can hear the alert by clicking on the file on your computer to hear the alert message. For your unit it would be a mp3.

You can put TourGuide in the file name and get alert without driving on the same road as the coordinates. For example driving down I-75 if you have a radius alert set for Cracker Barrel. You would be alerted from the interstate if you have set the radius far enough.

Try Loading a .Wav File with a TourGuide POI

On my 255, when I use Poiloader 2.5.4 to load a .wav file with a .csv file, a circle with an arrow appears in the upper right corner of the "Go" page of each poi associated with the .csv file.

When I select an individual poi associated with that .csv file, I can tap the arrow and the .wav file plays. As far as I can tell, it works only on the TourGuide files.

Edit: You can check it anytime. You don't have to be driving or simulating a route. You can use it to check to see if you have associated the correct .wav file.

When you select go for a single poi it shows alert information including distance if you have set up alert for it.Don't have any TourGuide files set up now but if I remember correctlly that same alert information does not show like it does for along the road of travel unless a update correced it.

Edit.Loaded one of my TourGuide files to my 265wt.TourGuide will not display alert information like along the along the road of travel alert does.Did see the icon at top to touch to play the wav alert above the go tab for the TourGuide file.Never had noticed that before.

Having Stumbled Upon This Playback Feature

I am looking for a unit that has good multi-stop routing. I want to take a tour of Alabama's covered bridges. My goal would be to put only 1 bridge in each file and create a wav file to go with it that would speak the name of the builder, the year it was built, type of construction, # of spans, the name of the body of water it spans, and other interesting facts about it. Sort of my own personal tourguide as I visit each bridge. I can repeat the info as often as I like by pushing the button above the Go tab.

I found the playback feature and am glad to know it works on other units (at least the 265wt). I have a good list of covered bridges. I am in the beginning stages of working on the wav files. I just need multi-point routing (with sort) that works so I can easily sequence the route to the covered bridge pois.

Users with the 37xx and 23xx units are reporting routing issues but have been told that Garmin will address these issues in this quarter's update. We will see.

Has anyone come close to answering your question?

I use Windows Media Player

I just click on my sound file in my Custom POI folder on my PC (ex: OliveGarden.wav) and Windows Media Player sounds the alert.

Do you have the icon for any of your TourGuide files that you can touch on gps screen to play the alert?Kinda curious if all models do that?Would think they all do.

Wondering that myself

I was wondering that myself smile The question was a little vague in that I couldn't tell if 'play' meant on the unit, or on the PC.

On the unit, only by either making the poi a TourGuide and using the play sound icon, or by putting the file on the unit additionally as a sound file and playing like music/audio book (my 765T does do both).

On the PC.. a bunch of ways.

selfruler- I do a similar thing as you described (TourGuide) with historical marker and railroad pois.. but neither my 765T or 295W do 'custom' multi-point routing (very well) sad That feature might help me decide on my next unit purchase, I think.
