"Recalculating..."

Every time I watch this, it makes me laugh. laugh out loud

It reminds me of stories posted here about owner's "adventures" with their GPS when they follow it's directions too literally.

Watching that Ad just once has me vowing never to insure with Allstate!

Fred

You gotta love it

Had Allstate got rid of Allstate!
I got hit by somebody that also had Allstate and they said there was nothing they could do, can't sue them self. I was on my own. Then wondered why I dropped them. I was parked.
But I do love the ads.

Actually they dropped my home owners after Hurricane Andrews and I told them to shove their car insurance, since then they beg me on and off to give my auto business back and I my Schpeel is take it all or nothing.

never had allstate...

...and never would. Same for State Farm after what they did to homeowner's insurance here in FL.

I was looking "past" who's commercial it was. It just cracks me up watching the driver blindly following the "GPS's" directions. ROLF

Amusing but doesn't ring true

I laugh too at the pop culture winking reference to "Recalculating...," BUT these ads kind of miss the mark for me, because I don't buy the premise that Allstate will cover a policyholder better in an accident like the one shown in the ad than El Cheapo Insurance Company. Fact is, neither company would be too jazzed about paying to repair two badly damaged cars that was entirely the policyholder's fault, and that person could expect jacked-up premiums or being dropped with either company. Yes, when signing up with Allstate, you can pay extra and get Accident Forgiveness coverage to avoid skyrocketing rates after this kind of accident, but I'm guessing most of their policyholders don't do this.

Love Allstate

I've had Allstate insurance for years, and have had nothing but good luck and good experiences with them. And yes, I've had to use it from time to time.

Are you lucky as has been said in other posts Allstate dropped Florida and Texas Home owners. They seem to want part of your business but not all of it.I know people who had Allstate for over 40 years and they (Allstate) dropped them with just one claim on their record with Allstate.

I think they are lot funnier than Progressive's ads. Their first was ok, then just more and more annoying.

The ad

I love the ad...I once had 2 teen-age drivers and Allstate. Each had at-fault accidents, not reckless, just poor judgment. Our rates skyrocketed. The kids got their own insurance, but mama & I faced high rates anyway. We became the family that switched & saved over $500. Mama & I both had spotless records. We switched every year for 3 more years.

Allstate starts low and goes up every year....

Had Allstate for 11 years with no claims or accidents. Rates still went up every 6 months with no clear reason. I had homeowners and an umbrella policy too. Called AAA and saved $1k a year just on the auto not to mention $300 or so on the homeowners. AAA like any other independant agent will shop several companies for you unlike Allstate or Statefarm. Those agents/salespeople can't shop anyone but who they're beholden to and since they're
paid strickly on comission they would never tell you
to check around. In some states they maybe more competitive but the point is shop around. Insurance companies like Allstate don't reward you anymore for accident/claim free driving. Many times they give you a low rate and raise it every 6 months. I laugh real hard everytime I see those Allstate comercials on TV telling me they're the good hands people.

My daughter is an

My daughter is an underwriter for State Farm. I know they struggle with properties near the coast - which is much of the state of Florida. Florida is a particular concern. The issue is hurricanes. State Farm has exclusion zones along the coast where they just won't write policies. They have expanded them in the brief time my daughter has worked there. The agents, and I'm sure the policy holders, hate it when they do this. I don't think this says a lot about their insurance policies for people who do not live on the coast or near it.

I think the add is reminder how annoying "recalculatig" is. Mine now says "sorry I messed up, I'll try again". I like that much better. My kids say they understand why I would.

I think it's the fact that he says "Recalculating" makes the commercial funny. I have only owned Garmins so I do not know if the other brands say that or not.

This commercial is

This commercial is hilarious. I actually have liked all of the commercials in this series. However, as Old Spice has learned from their recent successful (in terms of internet chatter and response) commercials with the Old Spice 'your woman wants me 'cuz I'm so sexy' guy, commercials that are talked about and liked don't always equate to sales.

I have to agree

It is funny!

Good ad

recalculating

Mine no longer says recalculating it says

"shmuck can't you listen--I'll fix it"

ROFL

Very funny commercial. I know that I can relate to that moment of panic in a strange city when the GPS tells you to make a turn you are not sure about. Perhaps he should have slowed down and thought about it a bit more first... smile

Conversely...

I've had Allstate insurance for years, and have had nothing but good luck and good experiences with them. And yes, I've had to use it from time to time.

My son had a person who was insured by Allstate turn into his vehicle (which I owned) as he was going through an intersection. The Hamilton County, Ohio deputy sheriff cited the Allstate insured driver. Upon calling Allstate claims three days later, I was told they couldn't do anything until they obtained a police report and talked to their insured. I informed them that I had already received a report from Hamilton County S.O. and their insured was at fault. They again stated they would have to talk to their insured and obtain a police report. I waited a few days and called them again. Same story. I waited a few more days and called them again. Same story. A few more days, same story. The adjuster even told me that if I were to quit bothering her she would be able to get more work done. I told her if she would do her job, I wouldn't have to call her. She hung up on me. That got me ticked off and I called my insurance company and told them to start subrugation proceedings against Allstate. This was on Thursday. On Monday morning I got a nice phone call from the adjuster telling me they were going to pay for my son's car. She then asked me if I had started subrugation proceedings against Allstate, (knowing full well that I had). I replied that I had and if she had anything further to discuss concerning this claim, she could call my insurance company.
One week later I was at the body shop checking on the progress of the repair. The body shop foreman asked if I had my insurance company subrugate against Allstate. I replied that I had. He replied,"Good. They hate that. But if you do not do that they will put you off for months before they will agree to repair your vehicle." His words of advice were to notify Allstate about the claim. Give them notice that you want something done within 3-4 days. If they don't start the proceedings within that time frame, call your own insurance company and start the suburgation proceedings. You will have to pay your deductable up front, but you will get it back whenever the claim is settled. (By the way, I had Allstate 20 or so years ago. Went in with a low rate, 6 months later they jacked up my rates by 50%. No claims. No nothing, so I gave them the boot.) But, the commercial is cute.

The Old Spice ads DID work...

I agree with you generally, ad buzz doesn't always equal increased sales, but I've heard from a number of sources including this one
http://sazbean.com/2010/07/28/old-spice-viral-campaign-incre...
that Old Spice sales did increase significantly because of that "The Man Your Man Could Smell Like" ad campaign, possibly more because it went viral on the web than simply because of TV. (The website I linked you to said sales were up 55% in a three-month period and up 107% in a one-month period.) Interestingly, I also remember reading that it was women buying a much greater share of the new, increased sales of Old Spice (men's body wash product) than men. Whether the women were buying it for their guys, themselves, their families, I don't know. But that ad campaign did work. Old Spice showed a new ad on the NFL playoffs this weekend that is not likely to go viral as the last one did.
