MSNBC should have known signal jammers are illegal in the US.

GPS Smart Mirror

My car has a backup camera that is displayed on the left side of the rear view mirror. It's pretty neat. Having a GPS display on the mirror is kind of a neat idea. I doubt that I would be able to keep my backup display if I swapped the mirrors though.

too small for me

I have a backup camera in my mirror, but my display is smaller than I'd want for my GPS.

camcorder helmet. . . .

was neat. I sent the article to a friend that does a lot of mountain bike riding in case he's interested! The app to create a "no texting zone" on your cell phone when the car is moving is the best idea yet! I think the government might be looking at making that standard in future models.

App?

That should be a "mandated" part of the operating system and not an application. It needs to be something that can't be user disabled. The technology is there already, so government should force the phone makers to plug the "update" automatically to all smartphone users. People who install hacks to the OS to disable the function should get mandatory jail terms if caught in an accident.

A mandate from government would also get rid of the excuse many have today that "my boss will fire me if I don't answer". Then the "boss" would have no choice than to issue better phones and bluetooth headsets if they want the employees to pickup.... or wait for them to park somewhere before answering or texting back.

You are moving at faster than 5MPH? Can't text, disable all buttons/touch screen, can only pickup a call with a BT device or voice dial. Want to text? Pull over/get out of the highway.

Apps and mandates

Great. Now people have to buy an app, or have another law instead of just using the brain they were born with. What's up with that?

I find it hilarious that people who drive expensive cars are the ones you see not using a hands-free device! What, your lease payment to high to afford a $30 BT? LOL!

However, as I've stated before; if people don't self-regulate, the government will do it for you.

I got a BT unit for $19.99 to stop my family's complaints because I never picked up the phone when I drive. It supports the voice answer/dial feature in my non-smart phone, so people with expensive cars and smartphones don't have an excuse (maybe just that the user isn't "smart" enough to program the feature built-in the expensive car)

Regarding self-regulation, you KNOW that is not going to happen. There are always the bad apples that will ruin it for everyone else; then Government will step in by the next election period and they will tell you it is "for the children" razz

Or...

Because of the terrorists! grin

Mind you, the way some drive, they should be classed as such...

What about Passengers??

My daughter sits in the back seat texting the whole time I'm driving.

Don't you miss the "are we there yet" instead? razz

Seriously...I don't see why people can't stop using these things for a while. I'm sure she has a portable game system or something else to keep herself entertained in long trips?
