Nextar V4-TV 4.3" Portable GPS Navigation System With ATSC / NTSC TV Tuner

I was looking online tonight and I ran across this Nextar GPS with a built in TV tuner. (It reminds me of the Garmin Nüvi 900T available exclusively in Italy with DVB-H mobile TV. https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=14807 ) Anyway, I don't recall reading that Nextar has ever been a highly regarded brand in the GPS community. I think that this is yet another example of the continuing convergence of electronic devices. Also, with CES 2011 less than a month away, does anybody happen to recall if we usually see new GPS devices announced at CES or are they typically announced at other times? (Who knows, maybe Garmin's next GPS will be a Garmin Nüvi 3795ATSC-M/H with a built in Mobile Digital TV tuner and wi-fi web-browser!)

Garmin did announce Eco-Route at CES and it was soundly trashed as the initial offering was more gimmick than substance.

I hope this thing WILL disable the tv tuner when it senses movement. We don't need more distracted drivers out there.

NTSC - OTA Tuner

Is obsolete technology. That should be a clue that the rest of the unit's technology is not the latest as well.

It really doesn't matter if they do or not because regular ATSC will not work while in motion. In fact, I have tried this with a digital to analog converter box in our van. I only wanted ATSC audio. It would acquire signal while parked, but at about 5 MPH it was gone. Sometimes it would re-acquire signal briefly, but it really doesn't work while in motion. Now if it had ATSC-M/H, then they might want to consider that.
