Loading POIs on SD card causes "No Data Available"

Hello,
After the latest map update 2011.3, I had to move my POIs to the SD card/Garmin directory. I first removed the POI.gpi in the Garmin/Garmin directory, then used POI Loader to load the POIs to the Garmin SD/Garmin directory. Now whenever I turn on the Garmin Zumo 550, after the map data loads and I click ok on the won't use zumo while driving, I receive a popup that says "No Data Available". If I remove the POI.gpi file from the Garmin SD/Garmin I no longer receive the warning. BTW the two drives are labeled as "Garmin" and "Garmin SD" for the Zumo and SD card respectively

Any thoughts on correcting this would be greatly appreciated.

Doug Brown

POI

Not sure if the Zumo works like the nuvi, but if it does, you would want to put the poi.gpi file on the SD card in the \Garmin\POI subfolder.

POI

I placed the poi.gpi in the "Garmin SD/Garmin/POI" folder and I still get the "No Data Available". I wonder if it has something do do with a new CSV or GPX file I downloaded prior to recreating on the SD Card.

Tonight I may try to individually add the POI files until I find one that replicates the situation, unless there are any other suggestions.

Thanks for the idea though
Doug

reformat the SD card

Try reformatting the card to FAT32 using the Panasonic SD Card Formatter (http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/sd/download/index.html) and then re-install the POIs on it. See if that works.

Further Testing

It seems for smaller POI sets, the Zumo asks me to import the data, and larger ones it doesn't ask and says "No Data Available"

I haven't tried switching in/out data sets yet to determine if it is based on file size, or file content.

I'm wondering if my POI.gpi is too large to import so the Zumo just gives up and displays a "No Data Available" implying no room to copy the data into the available space, so can't be used...

Might try to install the map to my SD card (8Gig) and keep the POIs on the Device itself.

No Data Available on Zumo 550 w/ POIs

I think the issue was there wasn't enough room available on the Zumo 550 to import the POIs from the SD Card. When I installed the Map update on the SD card instead of the Zumo, I was able to install the POIs on the Zumo and no issues were encountered.

I wish there were a way to use the SD card directly without the need to import from it. Has anybody ever manually edited the GarminDevice.xml to try and specify files to be left on the SD card?

Deleted all unused voice, text, and help files from the unit? How about the track log? Are you clearing that out as well? You can also check http://www.zumoforums.com/ for more information on your unit.

You also state the unit wants you to load the POI on the unit vice the SD card. On some units you answer yes to loading the POI on the nit, then tell it to skip and "Don't ask again." Until you change the POI.GPI file the unit willnot ask about loading the POI into unit memory.

So I previously followed

So I previously followed instructions to clean out the Zumo before installing the map update to get all of North America in the unit. This worked, however there wasn't enough free space to also put on the 12MB poi.gpi file.

With the POI on an SD card my zumo will only access the data after it imports it. So I installed the maps to my SD card, and the POI to my zumo. And all is well. just wish I could directly use more of the SD card for POIs, Icons, Track Logs, etc.
