Hello

Hello All..
I am a real newbie here.. My membership is barely minutes old!
I have a Garmin Nuvi 760 and have had it a couple of years.. I found this group while on the Garmin site looking for an answer as to how I handle a complete freeze up of my unit.. I did..
I have always wondered about additional points of interest and now I found out where to get them.. GREAT!
BUT, a typical newbie question.. I have downloaded several files but how do I load them up to my Nuvi???
Thanks in advance for your help..
Ron Husak

Welcome to the Community rhusak

Because there is so much information I'm going to direct you to the FAQ's. If you have a specific question after reading the FAQ's, then please ask and I know it will get answered. Again Welcome.

Looking for a place to go this summer? Try Oshkosh, WI, July 20-26, 2015. The largest gathering of aircraft in the world. http://www.airventure.org/index.html

Welcome indeed !

You've got members from all around the World, so can expect quick answers. If your question justifies it, of course - we've got our share of rowdy tempers sometimes grin

Bottom line, we may sometimes bark or have sharp answers, but we never bite. And Miss POI is always there to moderate oru crowd if it gets necessary smile

As stated above check the FAQ's there is a wealth of information. This is by far the #1 site on the web. Everything you need to know on how to make your gps do what you want to do is here. Check out Gary Hayman's site (he is also on this site) His site will walk you through everything from basic to advanced. Enjoy.

Hello and welcome

Welcome aboard. As stated there is a wealth of information in the FAQs. There are a couple programs you will need to download, both from the Garmin site.

If you don't already have it, download the Webupdater program and make certain your unit is running the latest internal software. The second piece of software will be POILoader. This is the program used to load all those custom POI.

Gary Hayman's site is at http://home.comcast.net/~ghayman3/garmin.gps/index.html#page...

Welcome to the site. There are many people here that can really help you when you need it. By far, this is the best site on the web for GPS info. Don't forget to do a search first and look at the FAQ's. Do what Box Car said and you'll be ready to go.

Thanks all

Well..
I figured out "with all of your help" how to unlock my Nuvi.. and then when I upgraded my software and maps I found that it turned on just fine but the maps were not there.. Had to down load them again..
I also downloaded some custom POI files.. Neat... and I am a happy camper again..
Happy Thanksgiving to all on this great list and I will be back often!!!

One more good resource

For changing your vehicle, I'd recommend subscribing to Tony's RSS feed. His website is http://www.vehiclesforgarminnuvi.com and he's got LOADS of excellent, free SRF files.

Just select a vehicle, and save the resulting SRF file in your device's VEHICLE directory. You'll then be able to select it to rerpesent your position on the map.

Enjoy !

Make sure you back up all of the GPS files for safe keeping.
