I was about to purchase a Garmin Nulink 1695 and read a review that said the 1695 was ad supported,I couldn't believe this since #1 they are so expensive and #2 you have to pay for the service after the first year and the premium features weather etc is a paid for feature from the first year.I called Garmin and I spoke to a rep and he checked and found out it is indeed ad supported the traffic,I ask him if it is able to disable this feature he said turn off the traffic feature, great reccomendation, doesn't look like I wil be buying this unit, any one know if Magellan or Tom Tom makes a unit like the1695.

Thanks that is good to know, the Tom Tom I was interested (2505) in has ads also and on the TOM TOM you can't put in routes another words go from place to place where the Garmin has 100 routes you can put in or way points.Which unit do you have, can you give me a little review of likes dislikes if you have the 1695,thank you.

Traffic is ad supported unless you subscribe - then the ads go away.
What's free for the year on the Nulink is the first year of data services. After that $60 a year - $5/month. By the end of the year, you'll know if it's worth that to you or not.
