Magellan 1440 - Map and firmware options

Just bought a Magellan 1440 for $60 (new from store). The software version on the device is 1.xx, when I checked Magellan site, it said the latest is 2.xx and asked me to download content manager. However, content manager doesn't indicate a firmware upgrade for this device, just a map update that I would have to pay for.

Also, I know that Garmin has a 60 day new map guarantee, does Magellan have something similar?

No.

Call Magellan about the content manager thing.
Their firmware updates are free but you might need content manager to load it.

It's also possible that their map policy has changed......but I doubt it. There should be a way to display the map version, and maybe date, too.

Their "tech" support is usually pretty good with simple questions like this.

Last time

Last time I checked Magellan had a 30-days new map guarantee, but you were responsible for s&h cost (it used to be $10). This was for new units only. Refurbished units didn't qualify for the update. You said you bought your unit from a store and new, so you should be fine if your unit wasn't purchased more than 30 days ago.

NEW MAP ANYTIME SOON?

Ok - so the firmware update finally showed up and I did that.

As far as mapping go - how often does Magellan release maps? Are there any possibility of a new map release in the next few weeks?
