Favorite Garmin TTS Pronunciation/Mis-pronunciation

I am using Daniel right now. He seems clearest to me, and it's as close as I'll ever get to having an English butler.

My favorite thing so far is how he says Boolevaad.

But my street is Catalina (Cat-a-LEAN-uh). Daniel says it cat-AL-ina.

In general, he has trouble with spanish based words. Names that start La he says Lay.

One of the streets at work is Biscailuz and he really butchers that one. One of these days I need to route myself down Chauenga and see what he does with that,

Karen also reads "Dr E" as "doctor east" rather than "drive east"

Austrailian Lee

Instead of saying "Farm to Market road xyz" (FM xyz)
Austrailian Lee prefers "Federated States of Micronesia"

I use the Jill TTS voice on

I use the Jill TTS voice on my C530. She often pronounces "Oregon" by saying "Oh-reh-heh-guhun". She inserts WAY too many syllables in there.

In Portland recently, instead of saying "Morrison Bridge", she said "Morrison Brother".

C530 with TTS mod

emily says, "Recalculaaaaating"

I like that although if I am making a few unexpected stops I will turn her volume off (she's the British TTS type sorta person). Have any of you seen this ad where the fellow is talking to his GPS speach lady type person and proposes to "her"? It is funny. I have no idea what they are selling... not GPS systems though.

Update Has Better Pronounciation

I use Karen (Aussie-English) on my c550. I enjoy the way she prounounces the letter 'Z'. "Turn left on Corridor Zed."

I did find that downloading the voice upgrade available from Garmin via WebUpdater did correct some of the more interesting conversions.

Yah, was in Texas last week and about drove off the road laughing when I heard Federated States of Micronesia. CLASSIC!

Karen

For WA (Washington) routes, she says "Western Australia" in addition to the "doctor" for Dr., among others.

I also use her and enjoy her pronunciations.

As I discovered a couple weeks ago

Karen's pronunciation of 'Mankato' - as in the town in Minnesota - is quite charming. smile

Got rid of useless "recalculating" interruption of my mp3's

I deleted the word "recalculating" from the TTS voice I use. It makes riding with a route more peaceful.

TTS Mis-Pronounciation

ALl of my TTS voices say a road near me called "Honeygo" as "ho-nee-go", I smile every time they say it.

Buckeye Road

with the English woman becomes "Buck-ee Road"
how very western, but hey we're in AZ.

Aussie Karen

Bless her heart, while traveling in Amarillo, TX last week she told me to turn right on Ro-sausage Street. As I was turning I glanced at the street sign and noticed it was really Ross-Osage St.
