This apparently applies to the GTM 35 which ships with the nuvi 37xx series.

On my end, the GTM 35 is NOT updating. The file is in the correct location \.SystemRemoteSW\006B090100.GCD but the nuvi diagnostic page still says v2.80. No indication from the nuvi that any update is being performed. I've tried power-cycling the unit along with the GTM but no update.

Anyone else get it to actually update?

Checking out 006B090100.GCD (which is indeed being downloaded to the nuvi going by the date/time stamp) with a hex editor reveals "Software Version 2.80" at address 73F1 and NOT 2.90 so it seems that maybe Garmin somehow botched this update up. Downloading either via WebUpdater or myDashboard makes no difference.

After "updating", the next time WebUpdater is run, it lists the same v2.90 GTM 35 update is available.

I have a feeling this update file is the same v2.80 version that's already flashed on the GTM 35. Poking around in the .GCD file reveals at least one other instance of a very clear "2.80" on top of the other instance I mentioned above.

I also tried my homebrewed "update checking" SD Card which lets me check for updates on all my units from that single SD card....the update was downloaded to the card directly into the proper folder (no nuvi involved) and is the same non-functional update file that was downloaded directly to the 3790.

This update also showed up

This update also showed up for the 200 using WebUpdater and MyDashboard Software Update.

It is going into loop without updating anything nor eliminating the Software Update needed message.

No updates were perform on

No updates were perform on the 1490t. Webupdater and MY Dashboard still show update available.

No Updates on 265WT

Same result on my 265WT. Garmin must have botched the update.

No updates on my 3790

Tried three times using Dashboard to no avail. It worked fine when I updated to 2.50. mad

Please post when updates are fixed

Can one of our members post once Garmin fixes the update.
Thank You.

Update

WebUpdater is no longer transferring the erroneous file over and reports a "Transfer error".

myDashboard is still transferring a file over but I really can't tell for sure if it's the same file (don't have access to my GTM at this time). Going by the file size in bytes & scanning through it with the hex editor, it appears to be the same erroneous file.

GTM XX Traffic Receiver Firmware

This is reply I got back from Garmin to the problem.I followed the instructions and the update still shows on Webupdater for download.

Thank you for contacting Garmin International. It sounds like you are
referring to the GTM XX Traffic Receiver Firmware update. After you
have finished updating the software with WebUpdater you will need to
connect back with the GTM 25 Traffic Receiver (vehicle power cable) for
the Firmware update to complete.

If you are continuing to have problems, please reply back so we can
assist you further.

correct update file is apparently up...

Update:

I redownloaded again via WebUpdater (Friday Oct 1) and scanned (hex editor) the new file and it very well appears to be correct since where I previously saw various "2.80" instances, those now show as "2.90". I cannot 100% verify the update is correct since I don't have access to my GTM 35 at the moment to actually flash the update. According to charlesd45, the update is now correct so we'll leave it as being "fixed" on Garmin's end (wrong file on webserver).

great news!

As of today, Friday October 1st the traffic receiver update is working. As soon as you plug in your traffic receiver the software will update and once you go to the ABOUT screen you will see version 2.90.

Firmware Update V2.90 and Windows 7 vs XP

I finally managed to update my 3790, however it was not as straightforward as I expected, so I want to share this info:
1. I can't make any changes in the files of my 3790 using windows 7. I can see the drive as f:\ and I can actually delete and add files and it looks like it worked. When I re-connect I find that the changes did not happen and were reverted to the previous state.

2. Used web updater in windows 7 and the software worked as supposed, however the update did not occurred when I hooked the 3790 to the GTM 35.

3. Went to an older laptop running XP and installed web updater. Did the software update and it worked as supposed. Hooked it to the GTM cable and voila, it showed the screen with the update of the traffic software. When I checked in web updater it shows no software to be updated. Went to my Garmin dashboard and it showed the software is current.

4. I can do changes in files and they work as supposed in XP.

If you are still having problems with the update consider the problem might be caused by windows. I have a Mac running OS X that I want to check to see if I can do changes in the files. If OS X allows me to do changes in the files probably web updater will work properly. I will post the outcome.

Anyone had this problem with windows 7? Probably I have a missing driver for the USB connection.

Yes

Yes, the 37xx series as had this problem since they were introduced. The issue that's been discussed here before is that if your "safely remove hardware" in Windows 7 any changes you have made to files may not take. The solution seems to be to simply pull the USB cable out of the Nuvi or PC and do "safely remove. When you do that the changes usually do take.

Goes for Macs too

This bug also applies to Mac users. Pull the USB out of the 37xx when finished an update. DO NOT select Eject, or the update will not be written to the GPS.

Pulling the USB

Thanks for the info! Is it ok to pull the plug without eject? Can I damage something in my computer or 3790? Thanks again.

Well

Well I suppose it's possible to damage a file but it is minimal. I usually wait for 10 to 15 seconds after the copy has finished being written to the Nuvi or your computers icon (Windows) returns to the normal arrow before I pull the cord.

The worst I'm ever seen is that the next time I attach the Nuvi to the PC, Windows wants to scan the drive for errors. It finds a 64 bit piece of data that it puts in a FOUND file and which I immediately delete. It has never caused any problems with the operation of the Nuvi.

I think the main thing is to be as sure as possible that any writing to the Nuvi's internal storage has finished before you pull the cable. Using Webupdater, this is normally at the same time that it displays the 'update success' screen on the PC.

Pulling the cord should never cause a problem on the PC but you can apply the same cautions to it as you do to the Nuvi if your not sure.

Which version of GTM software?

Nuvi 1490T
GTM 25 traffic receiver

After downloading the v2.90 GTM update and connecting to the receiver module in the car, I checked to see which version of software the GPS reports to be installed in the traffic receiver.

For GTM software it reads v5.50.

Looking at the GCD file that was downloaded to the GPS in a hex editor, "software version 2.90" is shown.

Where did 5.50 come from?

What are other people seeing?
