1490 Security Code Problem

When I enter my code, the numbers are displayed. They do not change to asterisks until a few seconds after entering them. My 760 will not show the numbers at all. Each number entered is instantly replaced with an asterisk. I have deactivated and reactivated the security feature several times on the 1490 hoping that that would clear up the problem. it has not. Has anyone else seen this?

Variable timing

I've noticed the numbers changing to asterisks immediately, the first two number staying numbers until I hit the third number and all the digits remaining visible until I press "done" at various times. Doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to the result. Personally I'd rather the numbers stay visible until I press done. Passengers can see what numbers I'm pressing and if I can;t trust them to not steal my unit, they wouldn't be in my car in the first place.

+1 on that.

Good Point

While rocknicehunter makes a good point, the inherent idea of a security code is that it not be visible while being entered. I use my nuvi in other places besides the car.

Is the asterisk itself that important ?

A person who purposely looks will see the numbers your pressing so if your that worried about your immediate surroundings, press the numbers with caution as you would using your pin with your bank card or credit card.

My only complaint about the PIN is, it only has 4 numbers. No upper/ lower case letters, and again, only 4 numerals. A weak PW, and not secure at all. A brute force cracker would defeat this is a millisecond.

Definately not secure enough.
