765T Questions

I am looking at a 765T as I want all the features it has listed, especially MP3.

Does the 765T have an earphone jack? I want to be able to patch into an RF modulator so I can route the sound through FM radio.

Also, can I llsten to MP3s while a route is being navigated? Will the spoken instructions override the MP3 when necessary?

Also, does the bluetooth hook up well with Blackberry phones? I have a curve II 8530.

I currently have a 255W and wanted another one with about the same features, but adding Bluetooth and MP3. This one looked like the best choice, for the money.

~

Yes, there's an audio out jack - works well into a car audio system with an aux input, or the RF modulator route.

Yes, you can listen to MP3s while on a route - navigation instructions pause the play of the music...

Bluetooth works fine with my Blackberry Tour - should be fine with a 8530.

Just ordered the 765T

The headphone jack is on the unit itself and on the mounting bracket. This way you don't have to remove any cables. Just pop off the unit.

Bought from TigerDirect through Bing. You get 15% cash back this way. It ends up being $152 through the end of the month. I have done a lot of research. Coming from a TomTom 720.

Was it refurbished

Was this a NEW, used, or refurbished unit?

I have seen the future and it is now!

Kind of confused by the previous answer

Are you saying the audio out jack is on the unit or on the mounting bracket? It looks like you say both. I am probably going to be using iwithout the mounting bracket at all.

Can I do this without using the cradle? Do the audio cable and the power cable both plug directly into the unit?

~

The jack on the cradle is for an external microphone for bluetooth.

Correction!

The plug on the mount is for a microphone. There is an rf modulator transmitter built-in as well as blue-tooth

power cable

The power cable plugs into the mount.

don't know that I care for that

I really don't want to use it in the cradle. I have a 255W now and the power cable plugs right into the back of the unit. Where I am going to be using this does not require a cradle, and it fact, it may get in the way.

765T cradle

The 765T really needs to be operated via the cradle and not via the USB power connector on the unit itself. With the correct power adapter you can get it to operate in navigation mode through USB power, but you can't get full screen brightness. The 7x5 series is none too bright to begin with, so you really need the full brightness you get when operating via the powered cradle.

but it will power up and operate?

by using just a 12 volt auto adapter cable with a mini usb connection, as long as I can live with the brightness issue?

I am putting this in a place where my 255W just lays in a pull out drink holder with no cradle. The cradle will just get in the way.

Uhm..

If the 7x5 won't work because of the cradle, why are you still considering it? If you want the features, then you will adapt your mounting are to fit the device. The device won't change.

Yes it will power up..but

It will power up with a usb cable, but with mine sometimes thinks it's in usb mode when I try that. Have used two different cables, same erratic result.

You should really plan on using it with the cradle, even if you need to remove the suction cup. There are way more pins on the bottom of the cradle & the unit then there are in the usb connector, so I'm not sure of everything you loose by not using the cradle, although some have already been mentioned here.

Btw, the 765T cable & lighter plug are also the traffic receiver, so if you want that feature you'll need to use it too.. straight-in type, not 90 deg like the 200W (and 255W??).

It's about the Line- If a line can be drawn between the powers granted and the rights retained, it would seem to be the same thing, whether the latter be secured by declaring that they shall not be abridged, or that the former shall not be extended.

Hmm Curious

I just bought the 755T, $199 at the Garmin store in Chicago, on Michigan Ave. It also included lifetime maps. BUT I noticed as I was reading the getting started manual that the Bluetooth Wireless Technology is NOT available on the Nuvi 755 models, yet the features on the box say it is.

Am I going to be plesantly surprised when I set it up?

Don't know about the box..

..but the web site doesn't say Bluetooth for the 755T. Only the 765T and 775T. So I guess you'll be unpleasantly (surprised?), especially since your o.p. was about the 765T?

Hmm. Just checked Tiger Direct and they say currently unavailable on the 765T.

It works while navigating, but might be annoying

I like the MP3 player on my 765. I use it in FM mode and it works well. It works while navigating, and the unit will interrupt to speak an instruction (it actually works well, it picks up right where it left off) or alert you, but depending on your route, and any alerts, it can get a bit annoying at times. Basically, if you are following a route with lots of close together turns the music, or whatever you're listening too will get interrupted a lot. Add to that any alerts and the interruptions increase. Fairly minor, but just thought I'd mention it. It just depends.

I was a bonehead

I do have a 765T, and was not paying attention. the 755 does not have Bluetooth but the 765 does, and it is the same getting started manual for both.

another question

Will the 765T use SD HD cards or just standard SD?

765T Bluetooth

There is an audio output jack on this unit. The Bluetooth feature on my 765T leaves much to be desired. It works sometimes; but usually doesn't work at all. I recently updated the firmware, but don't know if that improved the Bluetooth function because I bought a new Ford Taurus and it has Bluetooth built in, so I haven't tried using my Garmin Bluetooth feature while driving it. Except for that issue, I've been pleased with my 765T.

Is it the same?

I'm using a 4GB micro SDHC card with adapter. Is the HC what you're referring to, or is HD something else?

nope

It is HC I just mis read it.

I have one more question abut MP3

Can I load MP3s with a file structure to allow me to select an individual folder and play only what is in that folder?

.

Yes, you can as long as the mp3's are sorted for different albums like so: http://members.shaw.ca/anon_y_mous/images/file_structure.jpg
