My Nuvi 5000 Crapped out Today

Our Nuvi 5000 crapped out on us today. We are on a road trip from Florida to Alaska and somewhere in Missouri the map display went away and the word "drawing" appeared at the top of where the map should have been. Called Garmin and the associate spent quite a bit of time helping me out. Turns out there was a corrupt file that was causing it all. He had me erase the poi.csv file in the poi directory and the current.gpx file in the gpx directory both in the Garmin folder. This got me back in business. I erased all of the recent poi's that I had downloaded from this site and reloaded the remaining ones to my GPS. No dice... got the same error. I hate to loose all of my custom POI's that I have downloaded from this site. Does anyone know which one it may be? Has anyone else had this same experience?

poi.csv

Never seen a poi.csv file in my 855. I've never heard of a garmin model that uses a .csv file. Normally the csv file is translated into a gpx file before being loaded into the garmin.
Did you you use Extra_POI_Editor to load your POIs and did you save them as a gpx file?

Garmin's can use a .csv file. However, they get loaded as a .gpi by the POI Loader to the unit.

jimymc, have you tried a hard reset of the unit?

Clarification please. If I load a .csv onto the garmin sd card, does garmin recognize the file? I didn't think it would.

That's what I thought, the file in the garmin must be in gpi format. My typo error sad

I read the post that jimymc has a .csv file actually on the garmin sd card, rather than the gpi file.
