Flying J Travel Center Excel File

I searched the forum for information concerning Flying J providing a complete list of their travel plazas, but only found information concerning the evolution of the current file at POI factory.

Flying J Travel Plazas can now be downloaded as an Excel file either in Degree Minute Second or Degree Decimal. It contains 276 entries versus 248 entries in the POI Factory File. It also provides complete information such as Name, Address, Highway location, City, State/Provinence, Zip code, Latitude and Longitude. It can be found here:

My question:

They only provide an Excel file which requires conversion to a .csv or .gpx file. Can this file be converted and substituted for the current POI Factory file? I downloaded it tonight, but have not verified any of the coordinates.

Actually, I would like to know if any files created by any business can be substituted at POI Factory. It is obviously free information as for as I am concerned but I am not an attorney, so I don't know about copyright laws, etc.

TIA, Curt

Just downloaded an Excel file from Loves Travel Stops. Lots of information there also. Question the difference in their file (234 locations) and the POI Factory file (400 locations). Their file is located at:

Curt,

I maintain the Loves file here and the file now marks the off ramp from the Interstate rather than the actual location. I did it this way so you can just set a normal proximity alert much like you can with the rest areas. If the location isn't right off the ramp, there usually is good signage to get you there. The GPX version contains all the other goodies while the CSV is pretty basic.

As to converting the files, you need to be fairly good with Excel to combine fields or use EPE and use the M-Column options to specify which field is in what column. Just be aware the Flying J file has errors that have been corrected in the POI-Factory version.

Flying "J"

I maintain the file and the difference in number of plaza's is due to the fact that I deleted "CardLock Plaza's" that truckers use. I only wanted RV friendly stations.

Flying J in CSV

I just got the Rand McNally 7720 RV model and like it so far. I was just trying to upload Diesel stations (i.e. Flying J) but it doesn't seem to recognize a GPX format file?? It wants CSV. Is there a CSV Flying J file on the site?
thanks
Interesting board

EPE is extra poi editor.
