Go to a store (ie best buy) with the dvd and flash drive. Copy the contents to the flash...just a suggestion. or find a friend.

That's a good idea. Any idea how much memory will be required for the flash drive?

I bet it isn't much, less then a gig. The internal memory of my c530 is only a Gig.

assuming your gps came loaded with USA only and you purchased the Europe DVD. will you able to upload and unlock another region with the DVD? I see that on garmins website they offer the dvd and sd version for the same price. but what's the difference?

Well, lol, you could always purchase an external dvd drive, load the dvd onto your computer and then return the external dvd to wherever you purchased it.

What is the advantage of this software?

It updates the maps

Another advantage of the software is to allow you to do some trip planning from the comfort of you PC or notebook. You can transfer waypoints from the GPS to the computer and vice versa.

I use it when I'm at my desk and need to see where I'm planning on going when on trips. It helps me select hotels, etc.

Garmin is trying to save a buck by not including the DVD in the box, but I have requested and received the software for each GPS I purchased that didn't include it.

Thanks for the information. I sent email to Garmin couple of months ago to send me this DVD but they asked $16 for this disk. I replied back that everyone on the net said they got it free from Garmin, after that no reply.

Call instead of emailing.

Like MM said, call, don't email. It often matters who you talk to. If they say its not free, call later and try to get a different rep to speak to.

They did the same to me, trying to sell it instead of giving it to me, but then their new version of their WebUpdater had this warning: "For some unit updates, this software will clear user memory, including 'Recent Finds' and 'Favorites.' Please back up important data such as routes, tracks, and waypoints to MapSource prior to updating."

I asked how I was supposed to back those up without MapSource and then they sent it to me for free.

Hold on, I thought we were talking about the updates to the maps on the unit, not mapsource. Or are we not talking about either one? LOL

That DVD includes mapsource and the maps It is 1.07gb on my copy.

I called to get MapSource and they sent me mapsource on a DVD with an updated set of maps for City Navigator NT North America V8.

I hope you get the correct disk. It took me a couple of tries to get them to send me the full product DVD, not the upgrade DVD. I do have a couple of upgrade DVDs available if anyone wants one .

I did get Garmin to send me the full product DVD at no cost. As explained above, you need to provide them with the correct reason for them to send it to you free.

Whatever they sent me, it worked. I have mapsource and can set up POI's on my PC now.
